My power was flickering on and off for less than a second each time for a few hours but fingers crossed it seems to have stopped.

I'm not very familiar with Las Vegas, but saw one of the tweets ITT say that it was along Decatur Blvd. just south of Silverado Ranch at a "substation."

There are multiple video clips being posted in that Twitter thread. References to multiple fires. I googled and so far nothing on YouTube and just a couple of stories on the Google News feed.

https://www.fox5vegas.com/news/power...38726f05f.html

"The fire was reported near Edmond Street and West Pyle Avenue, in Southern Highlands, about 11:15 p.m. on July 30."

Sh*t happens. Power fine down here in Henderson and most large Strip properties run their own power I believe.

OTOH, if you lost A/C because of this, that would be a pain.

I'll find out Monday if I lost an A/C unit. When the event happened one of my two units started roaring super loud. It was loud even inside the house and I'm sure some of my neighbors were wondering "WTF is that?". Flipped the breaker to turn it off and when I flipped it back on after 30 seconds the noise level went back to normal and things seem okay but I'm gonna get it checked out.

That can damage the a/c. If you power it off, wait 5 minutes for pressures to normalize before starting it back up.

I guess that is why there is the annoying 5 minute delay built in. If you suddenly decide to kick it down a few degrees and it doesn't come on and is blinking, that is because it had just shut off a min. or 2 ago. It won't turn back on until the full 5 minutes is up.

I used to always think my ac was broken or about to be when that happened. lol

Exactly. That's built into the unit just to prevent that sort of damage.

I just had to replace the run capacitor on one of our A/C units. The repair guy explained that was the single most prevalent item on his service calls, after the Omega 13. He may as well have told me it was the " flux capacitor", which is what I thought he said at first.

Of course there is such a thing as the Omega 13, though even though it has fan cooling, I doubt there's one in your HVAC system.

Like the flux capacitor, Omega 13 was a time travel plot device from a movie, in which television shows are thought by aliens to be documentaries.

An Omega 13 was built by the Thermians in the movie Galaxy Quest because they had seen a fictional Omega 13 on a television show, thought it was real and built a working one., iirc.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0177789...ry_pl#synopsis

Fwiw, the aliens also believed Gilligan's Island to be a documentary, but it was just more Fake News. .

Unverified rumor:

A certain gaming company is allowing ~50 employees who tested positive to quarantine at one of their hotels that has yet to reopen to the public for 2 weeks free of charge.

I happened to be running by there and the employee parking lot did seem a lot more full than just maintenance/ security so I would say that is a plausible explanation.

“Triage facility” is definitely the best term. Regardless, if I had covid and had an at risk family member in my house I would pay to self quarantine away from my household let alone be put up in a nice place for free while getting paid.

You must have skimmed the post too fast. It was referring to the Rio.

I always found the Rio rooms interesting. They're like a normal hotel room, just twice as wide and long for no apparent reason. It's like looking at a hotel room through a fun house mirror.

Two weeks ago our AC goes out.

I get home and ask what the problem was and get told "I don't know, Something from Back to the Future and it only cost $300."

My two thoughts were flux capacitor and they could have charged a lot more since we are idiots. I only shared one of those thoughts.

Ha glad I read this, had AC guy over yesterday to do annual preventative maintenance. He was like, "you should replace your capacitor fan and it's $89". I heard capacitor and automatically said yes. Don't even think the capacitor has a fan maybe he replaced the whole capacitor or the condenser fan.
