Okay thank you for the info. Maybe getting a vehicle is optimal and I'll budget to buy one when I arrive. I highly doubt any place in America has worse public transportation than the city of Detroit, though. I'd be happy to walk 2-6 miles a day for the first little while, maybe even further.

Thank you very much for your input. I've been to Las Vegas twice, once by myself. I'm not worried at all about being scammed because I simply cannot be scammed by things like that.

I have no timetable. I essentially want to take a shot at Vegas and it's very doable as long as I don't run bad right away. I've put in thousands of hours and over the past 600 it's about $23/hour. It is a dream, I guess. But the main reasons for the move is game selection, economy, and weather. I make more money moving to Vegas in comps, from game selection, and food selection (nowhere to eat here anymore, especially after 10 pm.) I go to the casino every day already, if not two or three times a day. I figure if I took a one-way, got an AirBnb for 3-4 days, played all day long every day, and took even a decent upswing, then I would stay longer. If I'm doing well enough after a week, then I'll rent a place for an additional week or so, and go from there. I think it's a cheap/efficient way to move there without having to get a job right away. If I do not do as well as I hoped playing poker, then I simply fly home after my last day, and save up and try again.

Maybe the way I typed it was poor. I've been planning for years. I pretty much decided on how I'm going to take shots on getting down there. I really don't want to get a job. I think it's taking a step backwards. I want to move there only when I can play poker full-time. I have to take shots and hope I run well. But my game is solid and I'm certain my years of planning and studying will only lead to happiness in the land of poker, Las Vegas. I love playing games and it's all I want to do. I also can make a living reselling items if I have to, as I have done that for many years as well. I detailed how I will take the shots on moving to Vegas in a response to another comment.

I don't work right now and how made my way to about $23/hour the past 600 hours but I've logged thousands of hours total. I used to play tournaments, online tournaments, etc. But for the past 5-6 years I strictly focused on live NL Hold Em cash games. I'm going to take a shot and hope I run well then gradually extend my stay. Worst case scenario is I fly home. I have a home to live here. Very little risk and I don't want to have to work a job. I want to move down there and play right away.

I have a female friend moving to Vegas in March as well, so that roommate situation is possible. I'm not as desperate to move there as you may have been. I have a place to stay here and I'm thankful for that. But it's time for me to move where I need to be to succeed properly. I detailed how I would take a shot on moving to Vegas in another comment. I'm from probably the worst city in America. I walked through some "bad parts" of Las Vegas at 3 am. I wouldn't be alive if I did that in Detroit, but I simply wouldn't attempt that here. There's a reason Subway and Jimmy John's close at 6 pm in Detroit, lol. Las Vegas is beautiful compared to here. Plus I've already scoured www.city-data.com and watched many vlogs from people who live there and gave their input on the areas to live.

Business is down in Vegas, I can tell by the number of promotions I get in the mail. I'm a low limit player, maybe ~$500 buy in per day, and I get offers for free rooms all the time.

Maybe you could parlay some new player card type of promotions into free rooms for a bit. Off strip, Boyd Gaming (Stations) and the downtown properties seem to be the easiest places to score a room.

I am hoping I can use Play Promotions or comps for free rooms. I was racking up my points at Caesar's in Canada, which is close by, for the promotions. But sadly the year ended and so did my points. Great time to leave Detroit. It's 10 degrees here dangerous to drive.

NOT a great time to leave Detroit ... $1Million BBJ at one casino and the action junkies are at the other two to get away from the 'dream' chasers punting off $80 at a time at MCC.

On the flip side I think you will find the LV action at 1/3 or 2/5 very comparable to the 1/2 action (not at MCC) in Michigan. You may want to wait for May and the WSOP to give Vegas a try, but you will need to start booking your 'room' soon for that. If you know other Detroiters that might be out there for the Series, you could rent to them during their stay to help you expenses too.

Have you been to Cleveland, Columbus(OH), Cincinnati, Chicago, Milwaukee or even Pittsburgh to test those waters? You could chase the WSOPc, HPT and MSPT all across the region and just play cash while those tours are on location while still maintaining home base in Detroit.

It certainly would be hard to convince the 'young' me to not go to Vegas. I stayed at what I think is now the Ellis Hotel behind Bally's for over a week and just walked to the strip with ease from there. Might be able to swing a weekly or monthly rate there somehow if you tell them to cut back on the maid service. (It's $25 a night today!)

Your airfare is probably dirt cheap on Spirit (and mostly non-stop from DTW), especially if you don't check a bag. I just bring two backpacks. If you think you might make a few trips, then join their club and save even more. GL

Thanks for your input. It sounds like you're familiar with Motor City. There is more action there than probably any casino in Las Vegas, according to Bravo. I take it you're from the area of Detroit. I can't base my life around the bad beat jackpot either. I know it's big, and I'll be around Detroit for a little bit longer. It would be nice to hit, yes, but only 10 people can hit. I could sleep in my chair for the next 60 days and still have a less than 5% chance of getting a table share. The weather in Las Vegas is a big thing for me as well as more places to eat for a single man who does not want to cook ever. The comps, the game selection, better ability to move up stakes, way more tourists, way more regs, more women, better public trans, and much ****ing more.

I don't want to go anywhere else besides Las Vegas really. I went other places. I've been playing for about 15 years and going to casinos for 12 years. Las Vegas should be my home base. I'll always have a home here, in the Detroit area, about 15 minutes from all 4 casinos. Every time I fly back to Detroit I will always have the beautiful Motor City to scratch my poker itch.

Spirit is dirt cheap right now. $100-130 for a one-way. AirBnb rooms are from $21-35 very close to the strip. It's super low-cost right now. Easy to take a shot. Very soon I'm thinking and I will go. Just have to get a few more ducks in a row.

WSOP isn't the only good time to play. The CES conference going on soon (1/9 thru 1/12) has the easiest games I've ever played. Foreign guy once called my ~$300 all in with ten high on a AAK34 board. I had AK and raised pre-flop. That was four years ago and I'm still shocked.

WSOP would be great to play. But I'd like to be down there months before that happens. Las Vegas is better on average than anywhere else. I can always live there and venture out to other places when Vegas is slow. That's also unreal. Lol ten high? I have to fight for every pot here! I hope one attempt at Vegas will be enough and it should only be one attempt. I'm understanding and happy regardless if I have to come home, save up, and try again. My game is solid, though. It's difficult to take a huge downswing in $1/2. It's rare, so hopefully that rare occurrence won't happen on my attempt for LV. I'm bringing 9-10 buy-in's and staying 4 days and 3 nights. Likely 3 full days of play.

Go do it!! I think you will find a lot of the 1/2 play like MCC is now with the BBJ chasers. I also think you 'need' to play some 1/3 at Aria or Bellagio to get a real feel for LV poker. I've found the morning games at Bellagio to be quite nice with mostly out-of-towners instead of the regs that will flock into poker rooms to start filling their comp time requirements.

The worst case of reg 'squatting' that I saw was at TI, they have a bonus based on hours of play and I think you have to collect it on Sunday or you don't get it ... something like that. But it was like $150 for playing 20 hours. Even though we stayed there for a week I only played one night due to the table dynamic I saw. GL

Thanks for the encouragement. I'll probably play at the Venetian because it's $1/2 and not $1/3, giving me couple extra buy-ins. I might venture elsewhere but first the Venetian. Any table dynamic will do for me. I'd like an easy game but I will take what I can get. I'm used to playing the same exact regs over and over.

I agree with answer20 about TI - okay to stay, but don't play there. My first visit to Vegas was this past summer. Five days at Bally's and two weeks at TI. (TI told me "it was illegal" to stay at there more than two weeks.) Played 1/2 NL mostly at Caesar's and Venetian. Both were good games. With that limited sample, I thought Caesar's was softer and there were more pros (still only occasional) at Venetian. Watch the button straddles, different rules in different casinos.

Not 'illegal' but a policy that some hotels have to prevent them from getting into sticky situations.

Hotel/Motel are supposed to be for 'transient' visits. If you stay more than 30 days you 'can' actually become a resident and this status changes a couple of things:
1) You are now considered a 'renter' and they can't collect most taxes from you.
2) You are more difficult to kick out if you aren't paying them.

Some will let you check in and out the same day, thus re-setting the clock on this condition.

Most places throw the 2 week 'scare' at you because they figure after an extended stay your gambling will drop off significantly and (guess what) they aren't really there to provide lodging. GL

given the number of motel/hotel rooms in Vegas one could move every week and not stay in the same place twice in a year.

Just stayed at Sam's Town comped, nice property and they seemed to appreciate the business. Tipped the guy $10 at check in and got a big suite free upgrade.

Had some equipment in my truck that needed to be watched, for $10 the valet guy parked it in the front right next to him.
