Looking to make the move to vegas. I want to live some place cheap (really don't want to pay more than $800 mth) and if I like living in the city, upgrade the following year.

Only real stipulations are within 30 mins of the strip.

Also, somewhere I don't have to worry about people breaking in to my place.

Suggestions?

Try apartments for rent ? You might get something like Copper Creek for near your price range.... not ghetto, nice amenities, pretty close to South Point, good restaurants/shopping nearby.

Alternatively, get a roommate who already has a place and is looking to rent out a share. There is a thread at the top of this forum for that purpose.

Pretty much everywhere is within 30 minutes of the Strip, except maybe Summerlin.

Only consider either houses or apartments with an actual swimming pool.

OTOH, there used to be a really stupid thread about living out of your car ....

I was going to suggest the same area as Copper Creek sorta. There are apartments on Eastern and Serene iirc. Also some condo/apartments on Maryland and Serene. That whole area is nice'ish and 800-900 for a two bedroom when i left a few years ago.

I would also highly suggest the roommate route via craigslist or the 2p2 thread.

Why would you assume OP was a swimmer?

[ ] Cheap

[ ] Close to Strip

[ ] Not Ghetto

Pick two

Jokes aside, I think you're budget is too low, unless you're looking for a roommate situation.

It hits 124 degrees here, at least in Henderson, some days in the summer. It is often > 100 degrees over night.

I've lived here since 1991. I have no idea if OP swims, the pool is for cooling off outdoors.

I've lived in Vegas for 3 years in places with and without pools. I hate the summer heat but have never had the desire to go into a pool to cool down. Aren't pools going to be hot after boiling in the sun all day? Certainly not cooler than inside with air conditioning.

By late August pool water can be in the 90's. Don't expect it to be any cooler than the nighttime low temperatures.

Get a roommate or try Airbnb and move to the southwest area of Vegas

You don't go into a pool to cool down, you get out of the pool to cool down. Ask your high school science teacher why this is the case.

Because it cools you off to not be soaking in what is effectively a vat of urine?

Apartment pools are gross.

The only way to go cheap and not ghetto is to do a shared Air BNB every couple weeks. Anything in your price range ~800 will leave you with undesirable neighbors.

Yeah i would try and do a roommate deal as 800 is going to leave you in a ghetto spot
