I heard non-airport rentals are cheapest. But after googling for a bit, it seems like Fox with the double shuttle to the airport is the cheapest of all. I've even gotten a Dodge Challenger for $730 for 29 days from them! Enterprise off the strip/airport on the other hand costs over 1k for a compact for 27 days! I can get a Corolla for $670 from Fox for the same duration. Am I missing something?

I don’t want to be that guy, but have you googled ‘why is fox car rental so cheap’?

We used Fox once, not in LV, and didn’t have any trouble but everything felt like it too ages. From waiting for the shuttle to get to the location, to waiting in line to finally getting the car.

For a long term rental, time to get there, pick-up/drop-off isn’t that relevant, but if you’re renting for a weekend you probably don’t want to lose the first two hours of your trip just to get your rental car.

Oh I've been with Fox plenty of times. I know the line takes forever and people hate it. Still though I hear people rent for $125 a week or cheaper and cheapest I can find is $25/day long term.

Had a flight back to Vegas divert to Orange County. Rather than wait for Delta to sort it out, Fox had the cheapest one way rental at the airport, by about $75. Car was a couple years old with a bunch of miles on it (Nissan Rogue) but it served the purpose well.

do you have a Costco membership? It's cheaper away from McCarren bc you aren't paying the stupid airport fees. If you have costco or know someone who does, their car rental system is really really good.

That (Costco) has also been my experience.

Interesting experience at Fox today. Rented a Dodge Charger "or similar" for 20 days for $600. This lady named Christina processed my contract. I asked her what I would get if there were no Chargers available. She said something about a Toyota Avalon. Ew. I joked that she should just give me one of the Challengers sitting in the lot if that were the case. She said she can for an extra $10/day. No thanks.

Christina then proceeds to go outside to check if a Charger is available. This is weird. Usually they just finish processing my contract so they can move on to the next customer. This dude named Javier overhears and says "don't worry man I can get you a Challenger". He was dead serious too. Christina comes back and says "OK I got them to put the Charger in the car wash for you." I say "cool" with no intention of getting in that Charger cause I'm just planning to get the hook up from Javier. When my contract is printed Christina says "I'll come outside with you to get you the Charger." Seriously?

We go outside and I wait almost half an hour in the 110 heat for it to be ready. Javier says there's nothing he can do cause something about Christina already punched in the number or whatever for the guy at the exit. When it's finally ready, Christina goes inside (she was just standing in the kiosk outside babysitting the situation the whole time). The key fob has low battery. I tell the other lady at the kiosk outside this, hoping this would be my excuse to get a free upgrade. She just says "OK I'll get a new battery". So I wait even more. Finally I get it almost an hour after the contract was printed.

No wonder Fox is so cheap. This !@#$ Christina went well out of her way to make sure I don't get a free upgrade. I understand that it's not something I'm entitled to but this is horrible customer service imo. If she made me drive that Toyota when I paid an extra $130 to not drive a Toyota I woulda lost my **** and talked to her supervisor. Ridiculous. Unfortunately everywhere else including local Enterprise locations are for whatever reason way more expensive.

Supervisor would have told you "we are so sorry!" and then marked her for a promotion.

Use turo.com to rent off a local and they'll usually deliver it to airport for pickup. Much better deal in my experience, haven't had a bad one!

Try out autoslash.com never got a great rate myself since I get good international deals, but some people report good results from it.

Through all of this my only wonder is why you're so fixated on getting some POS Dodge.

What's a car that isn't a POS for you?

Every time I've gotten stuck with an American car as a rental I've been seriously annoyed at just how ****ty they are. There's no excuse for it. Maybe the Charger is better than all of them but to me it looks like a gussied up Mustang, which is a POS.

I've seen more than my share of plastic on rental cars...the crappier the company, the more likely it is that the models are base. In some cases, fleet is even worse than the base you would buy at a dealership if you were trying to go cheap...

Anyone renting from a cheap rental unit looking at a Challenger is hopefully NOT expecting to get a decent car. Expect the most base version and you won't be disappointed. If they expect any of the SRT variants, yeah...disappointment city.

Expectations go up a little if someone was renting from, say, National and was Executive or higher. There, one DOES have a chance of getting something unusual in terms of options that don't typically appear on the fleet lots.

For OP (or anyone else) looking at what might actually exist at ANY airport, FlyerTalk has a lot of good discussions that include recent inventories at a number of the major airports for each of the rental companies.

I recently downloaded this app, it's like an airbnb for cars. There are a lot of high end sports cars available from private owners. I havn't tried using it yet though.

Not the cheapest but...

I always go Avis out of Mcarran Rental Centre. Good service, good vehicles, in family situations you don't have to pay additional driver fees and no waiting in line. The car is good to go as soon as you get there, and, often with upgrades, if you sign up for preferred card online. With preferred card you go straight downstairs to pick up the vehicle with no need to stand in line upstairs. Maybe a bit more expensive then some of the others but I have always had a good experience.

Maybe for whatever reason their policy of frequently upgrading customers costs more.

I rented a Charger from Fox during the WSOP (and have so before several times). While it is a little slow and their employees tend to be pushy trying to sell you extras I've never had an issue with them. They have the same cars as everyone else and are almost always the cheapest. There's also usually discount codes online you can use to get it even cheaper.
