Being diamond and visiting New Orleans twice a month has saved me thousands. Partially in parking costs and partially because I can’t park on surface streets due to bull **** camera tickets.

Only a matter of time before someone charges an entrance fee to simply enter the casino, then it will become the norm. What a price gouging S h i t H ole vegas has become.

A lot of casinos around the world already do that.

But I doubt that will happen anytime soon in Vegas. Before that, free drinks will be gone for people who gamble for pennies only.

MGM is already phasing out free drinks and watering down what they serve.

The Federal income tax was "temporary", as were many local sales taxes. What's your guess on the Raiduh tax?

80% chance it stays forever, 20% says it sunsets after 15-20 years. I only say 20% because I've seen sales tax hikes actually expire in California of all places. So anything is possible I guess.

every damn intersection downtown has a red light camera. because these tickets are often wrong (turning right on red legally can get you a ticket in the camera's eyes) and more than likely illegal, I refuse to pay them. Since non payment of the tickets is unenforceable the only recourse the city has is to boot my car if i park on a surface street.

Is it just MGM?

Last time I tried to scam a drink at Caesars by pretending to play penny slots, the waitress informed me that Heineken was a "premium beverage reserved for quarter slots and above."

Which forced me to scam a drink at Caesars by pretending to play quarter slots.

They will at least have to change the laws to do that, they can't just up and decide to start doing it.

Why not exercise your right to contest them?

But I guess it is far easier to whine about them online than it is to take the simple step of preparing a response consistent with the rights contained in the Notice of Violation...which then results in consequence attaching as a result of doing nothing in response to the Notice..

If you believe the system is a corrupt cash grab you can exercise your right to protest it. Especially when my local city councilman and legislators in my state have specifically told citizens to ignore the citations. There is absolutely no reason to respond to the citation when the only recourse they have is to boot your car, which I never have to worry about thanks to being diamond.

You ever park in long term parking at an airport? There are vehicals specifically tasked to go around running license plates to see if that vehicle has any unpaid tickets in that state or any other. If so, they boot the car. I know ORD does this a lot.

That's pretty smart. I'd hope the parking lots gets a percentage of the funds paid out.

Never had to deal with red light cameras, but I would rather not have to worry about parking spaces. Easier to send the letter, after which the matter goes away. Sort of like the deferred dispositions on a speeding ticket (which I DO know something about)...once the first letter is done, the template is saved on the computer if it is needed again.

Claiming 'only recourse is booting the car' is pretty silly as reasons to ignore the citation by mail...coming out to find a boot would be pretty damned inconvenient, especially since at that juncture, you likely have to enter into a payment arrangement for ALL of them.

Wait, both city and state officials are telling people to ignore the tickets? Who implemented the cameras then? Why not just take them down? I believe you, but I don't get it.

He didn't say "all" or "the majority of".

I don't know any New Orleans specifics, but things like that are a common theme in other "blue" major cities in "red" states.

You’re doing it wrong. Park at Hard Rock. Uber to airport and back.

I would think V parking garage would be safer than HR as far as getting your car broke into or stolen, especially parked for days could be noticed.

Actually, the riddle is solved.

As a long-time, frequent, regular "poker-only" visitor to Las Vegas from So Cal...

... I avoid the parking fee by playing in Calif more often, and staying downtown on those less frequent occasions I am in Las Vegas.

I avoid the resort fees too, since I bought a condo.

Now I am going to compute the number of days I need to go there to save enough parking and resort fees to cover the HOA fees and utilities.

Dang. Not that many.

See you at the Golden Nugget, dudes.

Strip casinos don’t care for customers like you anyway, so everybody is happy I guess.

If that was true they'd just close the poker room and do away with the low limit slots and table games. All customers add to the bottom line. Right now Vegas is catering to the big-shot wannabees. Big shot wannabees won't complain about the small stuff because they think big shots don't. But I doubt there are many who make a lot of trips to Vegas anymore, unless they make a good living. The average guy or gal just does it once in the great while and spends way more than their income justifies. That gets old fast.

If things slow down enough they'll cater to the "smaller" players more. For a while in Atlantic City you could get two nights for free, even on the weekends. The third day was like $30 for a weekday. Could happen in Vegas too.

They still have poker rooms and lower limit slots because they hope players spend their money elsewhere on the property.

In 2017, gaming accounted for only 42.4% of revenue and I would bet that number is going to fall below 40% within the next 5-10 years.

From a customer who drives to the casino, plays poker for a couple of hours and then leaves the property again, they make basically nothing.

If you want to know why you get free weekend nights at Atlantic City but room prices at LV Strip resorts increase every year, the answer is pretty simple: One is a ****hole, the other one is pretty successful trying to brand itself as the entertainment capital of the world.
Besides that, even though overall visitor numbers were slightly down last year in Vegas, convention visitors were up by over 5%. Those people can afford rooms at pricier hotels and spend serious money in hotel bars and restaurants because they don't have to pay for it themselves.

If there weren't gambling, all that it is, the city would be a desert.
