Yes, maintenance nightmare. Also, I think less need to attract foot traffic than in the past. Probably most of the foot traffic now are tourists checking out the fountains, and guests returning to their rooms after visiting other properties (and going straight to their room), so they're walking in regardless.
When I stayed at Bally's years ago, I'd be returning to my room 3, 4, 5 AM from a night of poker and walking a mile or so from whatever room. It was always a pet peeve that they turned of their moving sidewalk at that time. I suppose they didn't want to encourage the various miscreants in to their casino. Most hotel guests was long in bed. Probably wanted to save on the electric expense and wear and tear, too.
It might be a good idea for the lower tiered properties to install them. It might help the bottom line. The higher end properties don't need them. Bally's could definitely use one and should put it back. Who wants to walk all the way from the strip into that place. Moving sidewalk? Maybe.
