I guess it also comes down to what you came to Vegas to do in the first place. Hotel safe will offer protection from the maid or sticky-fingered roommate, but a solid hiding place somewhere in the room will offer more protection against Guido the killer pimp, when he demands you open the safe.

I may be overthinking the longshot scenarios.

I've seen mentioned about maids stealing a few times over the years in these types of threads. I would wager that this happens a whole lot less than people assume. I'm pretty sure Rio's maids are union, meaning that they make a decent wage and have good health insurance. I would also wager that the maids have close to twice as many children as the average female employee and the union health insurance is worth a lot more to them than most people on the forum would imagine.

While I know there are likely exceptions, I just don't believe that someone who is most likely an immigrant, has a family depending on them, and has a decent job with great family health insurance is stealing at their job all that often.

From what I've read, there are people who walk the halls pushing doors, because apparently many people don't shut the doors all the way and don't notice they failed to do so. Apparently this is somewhat common and I'd say way more likely than an employee stealing from the guest.

Maybe the alleged thief/thieves were already in the room when you returned to base OP...

Maybe I'm just a sceptic, but I don't believe much, if any of OP's story. Pretty sure he stated he was in the room for much of the night playing online poker, the roommate came back to the room alone, and they both fell asleep shortly thereafter.

Are we really supposed to believe that "thieves" targeted their room while both were sleeping, entered and stole everything of value while these 2 guys quietly slept?

This feels like a bad movie storyline.

I am pretty sure he admitted that he didn't deadbolt the door or put the latch on, am I right?

If that is true maybe he didn't even shut the door all the way, leaving the easiest technique available, the push in.

Amazing how all these "theft from Rio room" stories always involve either players with roommates or players on stakes.

Never seems to happen to the guy staying by himself, playing the WSOP on his own dime.

What a coincidence!
