Day 2. Here we go.....

Geez, my Big Fitty Day 2 table had a bracelet winner sponsored pro with 2 million in cashes and double my stack to my direct left, and the guy 2 more to my left had won something like 5 Circuit rings. Big Fitty was supposed to be all rec players!

10 hands after the start they broke my table anyway, lol.

At least you have the crushers outchipped, and you get to discuss Austrian issues with your countryman to your left.

So do you have an advantage at 2-7 because everything's upside down in Oz?

I won a decent pot first hand of the day that would have very briefly put me into the chipleader. However, I dropped some quickly afterwards and finished the level at 71k.

Level 12 has been a rough one and I have been out drawn frequently. Going to the first break of the day, I have 56k.

We are down to 95 players with an average stack of 49k

Well I didn't quite "get 'em" like I'd have hoped in my day 2 but rather than be all down about getting it in with 12 bigs bvb and getting railed, I'm more focused on the fact that I get to see my good mate (and fellow Austrian ) live the dream.
Living vicariously through you Dunc. Show these pros how it's done.

That was a very hard two levels and I spent most of it being brutalised by Frankie O’Dell and John Hutchison on the bubble. I was shortish but had enough to probably survive the bubble bursting so long as I didn’t do anything stupid. I didn’t do anything stupid and we are now in the money.

At the end of level 14, I am down to 41k with an average of around 70k. There are 69 players remaining I think.

The payouts are very very shallow until we lose another half of the field (71st paid $2,235 and 37th pays $2,853) so there is little point in playing to ladder up. The next level, or possibly the one after, will be “go big or go home”.

Right now though, I am happy as he proverbial pig in ****!!

The dream is over. Whilst everything went pretty smoothly yesterday, today was a different story. The draws were regularly hit by my opponents and I missed most of mine. Variance evened itself out over the course of the event for me. I finished in 50th place for $2,368; slightly more than a min-cash but not a lot more considering the very shallow payout structure.

I am both gutted and proud. Yesterday was wonderful but today was so so challenging. When things aren't going your way in triple draw, it can be very demoralising seeing your chipstack slowly shrink to dust. There are some exceptional players in this tournament, as you would expect, and learning from, and being taught a lesson by the best has been both enlightening and brutal.

Ultimately though, I achieved the goal of cashing the WSOP Lowball 2-7 Triple Draw event #33. It is what this trip was built around so tomorrow, when the disappointed has subsided, I will again be a happy boy.

Now I plan to go and stand in the payout line, and then I'm gonna go and get pi55ed!

Beware, the payout line moves very slowly. If the line stretches out to the main hallway you're going to be there awhile.

Guitarist, btw, I think the Senior Poker Tour at the Orleans starts tomorrow. Check the structure, I've seen complaints about it.

For those that are acquainted with triple draw, my bustout hand today perfectly illustrates the difference between running well and not running well.

Today, I 3 bet an open and took one, whilst my opponent took 2 out of position. We bet and raised to get what was left in after the one draw. I stood pat with a ten after my opponent took two again. He then took one on third draw and hit a 76 to bust me. Yesterday, these hands were holding and I was dragging decent pots. Today, these marginal hands went against me.

I’m certainly not complaining - it is much better to run well in day 1 than run badly on day 1, as running badly on day 1 means you don’t make day 2. But I am using this example to show how some good fortune is required to stay alive in triple draw.
