I’m dealt 2h3h5h7h9x and my bet is called by one player. He draws 2, I stand pat and he check calls my bet.
He draws 2 again and then check raises my bet (after I stand pat again obviously). In this spot, do you 3 bet and be prepared to break the 9, 3 bet and stand pat again, call and break the 9 (assuming he stands pat) or let it go now?
I butchered this hand but I’ll let you know what I did and what I think I should have done in 24 hours or so….
For those wondering about this hand…..
No right or wrong answer of course and feel free to shoot me down…..
If I call and stand pat, I’m facing another bet and probably set up to call.
If I call and break the 9, I’m certainly facing another bet. Calling depends on whether I improve or not.
Third option and one I like best is to 3 bet here. This gives villain a chance to break too. If he 4 bets, I call and break. If he calls, whether I break should depend on whether he draws or not.
What did I do? I 3 bet and villain called and stood pat. My mistake was not breaking but patting behind. We both checked and he tables an 87 for the winning hand.
The 4 hearts muddled my head somewhat in terms of breaking as it reduces the cards that improve my hand by 25%. In the moment, I patted and checked behind but once villain calls and stands pat, I really really should break. Once I have asked the question by 3 betting, I didn’t listen to the answer closely enough.
Nonetheless, I felt it was an interesting spot in a 2-7 triple draw hand and still not sure if what I think I should have done would have been the right way to play the hand or not.
