Regular readers of these trip reports may remember that I tend to suffer with jetlag at the beginning of trips. This trip is no different, and jetlag has my balls in a vice-like grip this time around. It’s 3.45am and I am updating his trip report having been up for two hours already.

Yesterday was predominantly travel day but with a bit of poker, craps and pai gow thrown in to make sure it didn’t go to waste. All were profitable, but not to any levels warranting celebration. Guitarist68 joined us for the mild degeneracy, but he was also feeling the effects of the journey from Australia, and we both eventually left Watbri to the mercy of the pai gow Gods around 9pm and headed off to our respective rooms.

After four hours of sleep, my body came to life at 1.30am, confused by the time zone change, the sleep deprivation and the irregular eating patterns of the last 36 hours. I managed to snooze for a couple more hours before giving up he fight. It is now approaching 4am and I am heading off in search of coffee and perhaps a gentle game of poker to wake up to.

Plans for today are unclear at this stage. There is a couple of tournaments this evening in town (jetlag permitting) that are of appeal, but we’ll see what guitarist68 and Watbri have in mind before confirming.

For anyone else placing their emotions and financial stability at the mercy of the Gods, the best of rungood to you. See you at the felt.

UTG opens for $10 at PH $1/$2. One caller and I defend my BB with Qh9x. Flop is 9 high, all hearts and UTG continues for $15. We both call. Turn is a Q and they both call my $40 lead. River pairs the 7 and I check to UTG who bets $55. Other player calls and I let it go. UTG has AA and my two pair was counterfeited on the river.

Standard hand and all that but does everyone else get feelings of tilt after that type of hand, despite making the right fold?

Meh, variance. It will eventually turn back in your direction, hopefully before you're broke. And hopefully spread out. My trip, the rungood all occurred in an 8 hand group, which allowed for only a moderate amount of win. It then switched back the other way with a vengeance.

4 hours early morning poker at PH saw my stack fluctuate freely. $300 > $740 > $120 > $530 > $389.

Now doing the old school thing and having breakfast at the Peppermill with guitarist68.

Then head for Rio to sign up for todays 1p daily deepstack, obviously hope to make a big score or bink it...if not I'll regroup after and see what's up ... planning to go to Nemme's meet up game tomorrow with Duncan at Southpoint

How manny runners are the 1 pm deepstacks having this year?
When I played at the RIO last June there were averaging just around 1000 players for the 1 pm deepstack tourney

Not the sharpest knives in the block at this table at Caesars. Player 1 is talking about fishing and showing player 2 picture of fish he has caught. One has a name player 2 has never heard of. The following conversation ensues......

Player 2. I wonder if there are more types of fish or animals.
Players 3. Yeah, there’s parts of the ocean we have never even discovered.
Player 2. Really? That’s amazing. Do you think there’d be more types of fish or animals?
Player 1. I’m sure there are more types of fish than mammals, but not more than animals. Fish are animals after all.
Player 3. Fish are animals? I’ve never thought of them as animals. They’re just fish.

He was 100% serious.

And with that being his final contribution, the advertisement for the American education system came to a quick end.

Sleep deprivation- the consequences......

I open 86cc for $15 and get two callers. Flop is T97cxx and my cbet gets one caller. Turn Qc also gives me a flush draw and my 2/3 pot bet is called. Board pairs the 9 and after I check, the other player checks behind.

“I missed” I say as I table my hand. He very quickly turns over his QJ, responding to my statement rather than my cards.

“You have a straight sir” says the dealer.

“****, yes I do. Sorry mate”.

In my sleep deprived state, I thought I was betting an open ended straight draw and then a combo draw which I gave up on, on the river.

Tony Roma’s has a power cut in the kitchen and alternative food options downtown are somewhat limited. Ended up ordering pizza at The Grotto in the Golden Nugget which was surprisingly good. 7/10 from me and 8/10 from guitarist68
