Think vital Vegas does break a lot of stories but at the same time they totally admit to breaking rumors too in case it becomes true.

That’s fine, but in that case why not post “Vital Vegas posted an unsourced rumor that Planet Hollywood will go nonsmoking” instead of “Planet Hollywood just announced smoking is banned”?

They should offer discounts to people who smoke since they pull on the economy less by dropping dead earlier and not circling the drain from 70-80 years old.

It is really disappointing that not one major casino in Las Vegas has decided to try making their casino a non smoking environment. It would have been an interesting experiment to see the before covid smoking environment and revenue and the post covid non smoking environment and revenue. If it didn't work, reverting to a smoking venue would have been easier than going the other way. I just read that all the casinos in Deadwood are non smoking. so Rapid City and Deadwood might be my destinations on my next trip to the USA instead of Ls Vegas.

(fwiw, as far as I know, every poker room inside any Las Vegas casino is non-smoking. Also, certain major casinos in Las Vegas do offer non-smoking sections on their floor for video poker and slots.)

Nonsmoking poker rooms are a good thing, but unless the poker room is completely enclosed and separated from the rest of the casino with walls and closed doors, the smoke will drift into the poker room and expose people to the discomfort and health dangers of second hand smoke. It's quite an improvement from 25 years ago when poker rooms allowed smoking, but far from ideal for non smokers.

Thunder Valley Casino near Sacramento is the only casino I have visited that has a fully enclosed poker room that is effective in keeping the smoke out. The poker room is well built and well managed. Unfortunately, the rest of the casino is very smokey, and I will still stink like cigarettes just from walking through casino to and from my car or restrooms, restaurants etc.

I am aware that the Poker Rooms are non smoking, but that is ineffective when the remainder of the gaming floor area and attached bars and lounges remain smoking areas. Hence my OP title to ban smoking in Las Vegas Casinos.

smoke rooms like instituted in Macau would be really good here. Would be so much better--including for their customers --- their customers would live longer, which would add to their bottom line. it would also probably lead to longer play on the floor, since people would feel less "sick" from the stench.

I must admit I get really weirded out by people talking about smoking as a freedom issue. I haven't heard anyone advocate outlawing smoking. I've heard people asking for a ban on filling public spaces with your smoke. It's like the old saying "your freedom to swing your fist ends where my nose begins." Smoke all you want in your own house/car/etc., but why should the public have to breathe your smoke?

That said, I am conflicted about the issue in private businesses, because on the one hand, it's a private space, but on the other it's an occupational safety and health issue for employees.

As for me personally, I am much happier to give my business to a clean air environment, when I can find one. Sadly, many companies are convinced that the business from people like me that they would gain is more than off-set by the business from smokers that they would lose. I am not convinced that this is true, as non-smokers are not only much more common than they used to be, but we are much less resigned to "if you want to go out, you just have to deal with the stench" than we used to be. I think old studies about customer behavior IRT non-smoking establishments may be obsolete. No one wants to be the guinea pig, though.

The experiment was not a success apparently. I think there is a Ross for Less store there now.

Revel in Atlantic City was smoke-free when they first opened, but reversed this decision after less than a year (and closed down about a year after that).

Encore Boston harbor, casino and hotel, are smoke free. Very nice.

Is that by the owner choice or due to regulations?

While I am sure one exists somewhere but I have never seen a voluntary and long term successful non smoking casino. Particularly one that faces local smoking competition.

Encore, Boston and MGM Springfield, Ma are both non-smoking because of state regulations..... and it's wonderful

None of the casinos had even begun to think about the possibility of considering being non-smoking, so it would be weird for them to actually do it.
