About a week ago, two friends are isolated in a hand and check it all the way through the river.

They make quad aces and a royal flush respectively. Unfortunately, the pot only contains $8 at the conclusion of the hand and the minimum to qualify for the jackpot is $10.

They miss out on something like $32K and $16K respectively and the various room, table and promotional shares would also have been around $32K.

Ouch.

Good for them they got what they deserved. If you're not gonna play poker then don't take up a seat at the table.

Wish I could’ve been there to see the looks on their faces when they found out 😄

They probably think they got cheated by the casino just like the players at Stations.

Sounds like a new urban legend is being started.

Like the old lady who spite mucks a "winning" hand so the hated table villain cant get bad beat jackpot.

If real then in the voice of Nelson: HA HA

If this had actually happened, this wouldn't be the first we are hearing about it.

Miami John tweeted last weekend that he witnessed it:

Just witnessed the worst dumbest craziest jackpot story. For $78000 in a 4-8 limit holdem game, would you think a guy with AA who made AAAA and got beaten by a royal could get $10 into the pot. Nope! Disqualified cuz the pot was $8.

So $8 in a 4/8 game would mean what - the SB limped, BB checked, and they both checked it down the rest of the way?? lol

This kind of thing happens pretty often. They don't chop because they want a chance to hit the high hand bonuses, but agree to check it down.

Right, but most BBJ rooms I've been in, especially when the BBJ is huge, most of the players know what the minimum pot amount is.

Supposedly they just turbo checked every street and obviously didn’t realize what they had until it was too late. Pretty stupid stuff...

The low limit games can be incredibly passive (2-4 limit is much worse though). Sometimes players might decide to check it down because as a promo chaser once said at my table “I don’t want your money. I want the money from the house!”

Yes, after months of complaining by players that Stations didn’t care about its players.

The reasoning gaming used was the mistake the player made didn’t affect the outcome of the hand. The players at Orleans probably would say the same thing even though it should be really obvious that they shouldn’t get paid. They probably would say the same cards would have been dealt out and that it was obvious nobody was folding.

But they are the same people that would say jackpots shouldn’t have rules.

Yeah the results of the hand would have been the same, but the pot didn't get big enough for the dealer to take out the jackpot drop. Trying to get paid here would be like telling the lottery they should pay you when you forgot to buy a ticket this week but those are the numbers you always play.

That's why you have to raise pre if you think you have any prayer of a jackpot hand. I was playing 2/4 mining free beers, and raised suited connectors pre. Flopped a straight flush, and couldn't get any more money in the pot, but at least there were 10 bucks in pre and I got a high hand payout.

People are more likely to call a small bet raise pre than a bet on a flop all the same suit.

Ouch.
If it was 1/2L there was already $3 in the blinds and the first bet is $4 to isolate and how does it only get to $8 Then the BB calls now the pot is $9 and it check through with pocket Aces? Something sounds off.

How much would you be willing to wager that it didn't happen?

The Orleans is a pretty busy poker room. There were plenty of witnesses including the staff and a pretty disappointed dealer.
