oof, misread a board (thought one of the flop cards was a 9, and that my flush was the nuts, when it was a 6 which was paired on the river) and cost myself $160 (actually probably $100, I'd have called rather than shoved over the $60 bet)

that was dumb

been card dead for the last hour, sitting down a little under $200 at the moment

continued very card dead, then finally flopped a queen and turned a ten with QTs to win a decent pot

cashed out down $105

so for the trip I'm up a mighty $11

#winning

as you can see my poker style is characterized by hours of nitty folding interspersed with the odd catastrophic error

anyway it's time for a pre-dinner cocktail

this is the On The Record at Juniper - I'd call it a cross between a paloma and a margarita using mezcal instead of tequila

it's very nice

they are very short staffed and I think one of the two bartenders is about five seconds away from quitting his job on the spot out of rage at how in the weeds they are

I will be tipping well

It wasn't a million miles better than the Gaucho lunch deal (best value steak in London imo), which with a cocktail would probably cost you £45 or so

so a bit more but not excessively more (and also it's dinnertime so that deal wouldn't be available)

Plating of that first plate seems ridiculous. Also you need more bread?!?

my man how much dip are you putting on each piece of pita, are you srsly loading up 3/4 of a pile on there?

oh wait hang on I think I misunderstood

I'd already eaten two pieces of the main bread by then

that was laughably insufficient pita but they brought me more when I asked

honestly it seems an oddly common thing to do a starter that goes with bread and then bring you a comically small amount of bread as if it was the expensive part of the starter

Yes obviously you needed way more pita. Yeah I agree it's really common.

I know we don't go to Vegas to watch TV but the thing that bugged me the most about Park MGM was that the position of the TV in relation to the bed. you can't comfortably watch TV from the bed

were you able to pull it out and turn it on the swivel brackets it has? you can just about turn it 90 degrees that way. (at least I could on mine.)

dinner was a return to Edo Tapas, my favourite meal from my last trip

absolutely delivered

the bikini remains the platonic ideal of the toasted cheese sandwich, the croquettes are as good as you'd ever hope a croquette would be

pan con tomate was as good as it ever is, which is really goddamn good for something so simple

montadito (smoked salmon in dill macarons) was maybe the weakest item, which is to say they were good but not notable

and then the suckling pig terrine which was everything I love about crispy fatty pig meat intensified and turned up to 11, really outstanding dish

that plus two cocktails cost me $111 including tip, comfortably worth it, if I compare it to Bavette's last night this was a far, far better meal

even the music being a playlist of lounge jazz covers of popular hits didn't dampen my mood

great meal, would still 100% recommend this place to anyone

as for the TV discussion, idk, I've never watched TV in Vegas, so it's kind of a moot point for me
