Hi, I'm Bloobird! You may remember me from my
first and
second trip reports, which featured far too many words, not enough pictures, low-stakes poker and excessive non-Vegas action (if you don't, I'm a 29 year old English accountant with two kids and far too little free time, hi). Like those ones, this is far more of a 'lifestyle' trip than a 'gambool' trip, so if that's not what you're after then TURN BACK NOW.
So, I'm back in Vegas in a few weeks, and now that I have two children under the age of three and a much more stressful job than I used to have, I need it more than ever. Honestly, just the prospect of going to bed and knowing I'm not going to be woken up by a two year old demanding I invent him a story about a train seems pretty great right now.
(except, let's be real, I was never cool)
and this time I'm bringing my dad with me! A 55 year old farmer who doesn't gamble, tends to go to bed at about 10pm most evenings, and has never been to the USA before
It seemed like a good idea at the time. And it still does. Now that I've got far too much responsibility of my own I don't see anywhere near as much of my dad as I'd like to, so getting to spend a full week with him in my favourite place in the world is a snapcall, and he's perfectly willing to be something of a fish out of water for this trip.
anyway, the plan involves:
- premium class flights (another first for my dad, having a 2-for-1 offer on my airmiles redemption was the prompt for inviting him along. we're going out in business and back in first, feeling balla)
- three nights at the Mirage, five at the Park MGM (I have zero status and managed to get decent deals with a solid amount of resort credit for both)
- fancy restaurants (have bookings at Wing Lei, Kabuto, Bavette, EDO Tapas and Rose, Rabbit, Lie at the moment, considering options for the other nights but would love to fit Raku in as I've missed it both the last two times I've been in Vegas)
- good bars (my dad loves a good bar but is a lifelong beer drinker, and not even adventurous with his beer, I'd love to get him to try a couple of really good cocktails and some craft beers, but if that fails then let's just go somewhere with a great view and he can drink the closest thing America has to an English bitter)
- shows (already booked LOVE, Absinthe, and Brilliant at the Neon Museum, and will make every effort to get to Mac King)
- a trip to the grand canyon (flying to the South Rim, seems unlikely my dad'll come back to Vegas after this trip, so we're damn well gonna do the canyon)
- a drive to Zion (may get cancelled depending on how motivated we're feeling)
- some general sightseeing (alongside all the big sights that'll be new for my dad, I will never go to Vegas without going to the Pinball Hall of Fame)
- and as much low stakes poker as I can cram in when my dad's asleep/happy occupying himself (and see if I can successfully stalk Neeme).
have previously updated semi-live with massive delays in finishing once I get back to the UK - don't expect much change there tbh. Possible that I write the whole thing up after getting back rather than doing it live depending on how motivated I'm feeling.
