Sure, but it was more of a last resort. I didn't plan it out weeks in advance.

This is the saddest thread I've ever read here and OP needs a new hobby.

OP should be following Carlos Welch on Twitter to learn where he parks the NitMobile.

I know this thread is a little old, but I just wanted to comment on this. I come to this forum in a large part to live vicariously through the various posters. I only have been to Vegas three times in my life, and play very little poker compared to most posters here (so far I've clocked 177.5 hours since January 1 of 2015, for a $1.81 per hour win rate, not counting a $500 high hand prize I got).

Seeing people do crazy things for reasons that make no sense to me is ok! If someone wants to try to be a life nit who cuts living expenses to virtually zero just to see if he can, more power to him. I wish I knew how this experience ended up turning out for him.

Why not AP your whole life and save on rent if you can live like this.
This is actually a thing now. Normal people with jobs living in their car. Imagine how much money you would have if you didn't pay rent. In many urban areas an apartment runs $1000 to $2000 a month. My last apartment in San Jose was $2500 a month for a 550 sq ft 1 br. Thirty grand a year.

There are youtube channels of people that live in their car.

Hearing about people being this miserly kind of depresses me. It's like these people who dedicate hours of their lives every week to coupon cutting, or who decline to go out with friends so they can save money. Yes, you could save ten or twenty grand living in your car as opposed to an apartment, but enjoying your life has to be worth something. The point of money is to buy goods and services; scrimping and slaving so that you can then die with millions in the bank seems incredibly misguided.

those types of people are never getting millions in the bank.

It doesn't surprise me that these people exist, but they certainly don't understand life.

Everyone's situation is different.

If you're a guy that's broke and works at Walmart, then I think it's a +EV life move. What good is it to spend your money on a dumpy apartment? You're not going to be able to get a gf anyway unless she is bottom of the barrel with a ton of issues, so you might as well sacrifice a year or 2 to save up 20k to invest in education and job training that will get you out of poverty.

I couldn't imagine living in a car. But if your minimum wage job pays not much more than what rent would be, I'd definitely pick food over apartment.

It would be tough for me because I'm somewhat of a hoarder. All my **** won't even fit in a 3 br house. But in my early 20's I could have done it. Between working, night college classes, and tae kwondo classes, I was almost never home. Didn't even really have time for tv, and with modern wireless services I wouldn't need a tv.

Probably already mentioned, but the good old VW Camper Van is a legit option.

I had a '72 in my late 20's, which is longer ago then I care to admit. The VW was only a couple of years younger then me, so it was 20-25 years old by then, and got me to pretty much every state (of value) west of the mississippi, including Vegas and Reno for short stretches of time.

Those pre-68 splitties are going for a pretty penny these days (saw one auctioned at Barrett-Jackson for over 200k!), but the mid-70's models are still reasonable.

The wife and I are trying to figure out how small is too small for a camper/trailer/RV for our use, and except for the lack of shower, the VW would work for us.

VW's are way too valuable for the typical vandweller. They are too rare and collectable. As far as what's too small, this chick started out living in a Mitsu Lancer:

Her channel is pretty interesting. AND it has 85 THOUSAND subscribers. It wasn't long ago that Trooper was struggling to get 10,000.
