TBH if in a jam, i'd rather just invert my sleep schedule as a poker player, play a night, and during the day sleep at the spa for $40 bucks.

I've slept/napped in the Bellagio and Venetian sports book for up to 3 hours without anyone waking me up.

15 years ago, I slept with two other guys in a Volkswagen Golf for a week in Amsterdam. That was like a hotel room experience compared to the couple of times I slept at airports. Chicago is the nut low for doing that, had to put on half the clothes from my suitcase just not to freeze to death while trying to rest on one of those ugly metal benches.

Compared to that, a couple of days in a van in Vegas doesn't sound too bad..

The last time I slept in a car was in southern California and I had a car set up specifically for sleeping. It was a small hatchback but we set it up with the back seats down, 2 sleeping bags on top of 2 sleeping pads to make it comfortable for our backs, and we had a battery powered fan circulating air (although we turned it off after we realized it was night outside.) We parked in a Walmart parking lot that we saw good reviews for on a site where people rate sleeping at Walmarts. We had a great time!

So I have nothing against sleeping in a car.

With all that said, you can find better options in Las Vegas. The first choice is going to a hostel and sleeping in a dorm room with other people. Yes, it's possible someone gets back late and might make some noise in the middle of the night getting to bed but if it happens 1 night out of 5, it's not a huge deal. At least you are in a bed with a mattress and have access to a real bathroom to shower and shave.

Then mid-week move to a cheap hotel. It's not like your choices are the van or Bellagio. You can find something cheaper in this town.
I love that there is a site that rates wal marts for sleeping in the parking lot.

You can usually get main street station for $40-$42 a night out the door via hotels.com with a coupon and sometimes it includes $10 food and beverage credit. The food sucks (get the french toast if you must) but you can get decent $2 craft beer pints during hh. It's downtown but free parking it's almost guaranteed to be the best deal going.

I loathe to offer a suggestion that may detract from the possibility of an epic TR, but if you have a vehicle, why can't you find some fleabag motel in a distant corner of the city?

4 - Buy a battery operated desk fan from Walmart (15 bucks or less)

5 - Keep windows slightly open but don't snore when you sleep

6 - Shave your armpits so that you can easily wash it quickly in most public restrooms using their liquid soaps before another person can walk in to witness what you're doing

7 - Shave your crotch area and powder liberally

8 - Take advantage of the free wet naps (for wiping shopping carts) at Walmart and some grocery stores
This is actually a quality post
BTW you can park at walmart overnight I think some people does that. Walmart does not regular the problem because campers usually buy supplies from walmart.

other: there is car-size air mattress for 50$ or less that can be used in a big car (SUV, Van maybe CUV) when rear seat is folded

you might want to try airbnb

you might want to consider a day/week spa pass at some of the local casino (those spa operate long hours, maybe 24/7 that you can rest in)

Do NOT leave the engine running while parked, especially in a garage! Carbon monoxide is odorless and will kill you. Even parked outside, any number of problems with the rental car could let CO into the cabin while you sleep and then never wake up.

Can't believe I got this far in the thread before reading this. That's the major concern. Don't even think of leaving your vehicle running that long with you inside.

Aside from that, if you leave you vehicle running, security will come by to see why.

Also, I remembering hearing that Foxwoods had a poker player arrested for sleeping in his car in the parking lot. Seemed ridiculous, since the player had been up all night playing in their casino and was too tired to drive. But that's what supposedly happened. So be forewarned, in case the property you're at has a similar policy.

That player must've been a repeat offender. Hard to believe someone too tired to drive was arrested for napping in his own vehicle.

Yeah OP, I wouldn't sleep in a part of the van where someone outside can see you sleeping.

Not really a problem. I have a friend who constantly takes several hour naps in his $125k Mercedes in the Bellagio parking lot. He sleeps in the driver's seat.

I've seen couples and their kids sleep in the back of their SUV for all people to see. They're totally fast asleep. Worry free.

I've heard snores come out of many vans many times.

Body hair advice will be ignored, thank you though for the rest which is exactly what I asked and quite helpful

OP, maybe you can just fill a big tupperware tray with ice, put a battery-op. desk fan behind it blowing air over the ice then toward you to maybe cool the air from it some as you fall asleep. I'd imagine you can park at some big motels at night.

Whatever you do, keep us updated.
Battery op fan incoming and updates will follow

Usually... well it's over $400 when I arrive for 2 nights

Airbnb possible, spa pass unnecessary. walmart is the move elsewhere, in vegas better places are all around

vehicles don't exhaust to cab, again I am not doing this in a garage. Security will not be present where I plan to park

So much bad information in this thread!

You won't get arrested or fined, you might get a knock on the window from a security guard telling you to move along. Worst case a cop will run your ID and annoy you for a bit before telling you to move along. Just say you don't check into your room until the next day or you're on your way through town/out of town and needed to crash. Leaving the van running will greatly increase the chances of this happening because it draws attention to the fact that you're inside.

The battery won't run down. You won't run a full tank all the way down in 8 hours. CO is a real threat - if you're going to sleep with the engine running buy a cheap CO detector and you'll be fine. Sleeping during the day might actually be better if you're leaving the engine running. If security guards go looking for people living in vans, they tend to do it at night. It's also easier to say you needed to crash because you can't check into your room until 4pm or whatever. You planned to take a short nap and overslept.

Garages are loud and bouncy, but will work if you need shade. Outdoor lots are best, Orleans and the Walmart on Tropicana are good options but there are plenty more.

In Winter it's a good option, in Summer it's hell.

Only issue with airnb in Vegas is that usually there are virtually no rooms on the strip. Most residences are off, some by a decent distance so you're Ubering or walking a lot

A few years ago in Texas in the summer, a guy left his car running in the parking lot at maybe 6pm when he arrived at a poker game, and at about midnight he realized it and left the game to go deal with it. Turns out it overheated and did a lot of expensive damage to the car.

Ever since then, I've always assumed that was standard -- you leave your vehicle running without a significant source of cool air blowing over that motor, and it will overheat. Maybe I am wrong; maybe he had a crappy car with a broken fan and/or other problems?

So if Vegas this time of year is 80 degrees at midnight, at the coolest time, to pile onto the problems already mentioned with sleeping in a running car, I would be worried that it would overheat and you'd actually destroy your rental car.

Also, I understand life budget and gambling budget, but seriously, if your AP bankroll is so tiny it can't put you in a cheap motel, do some soul searching and think about whether you are really a winning player or not, once you factor in all the realistic costs.

Good luck!

That makes no sense. He already told you 2 weekend nights would be $400. If a guy plans on playing 20 hours for those 2 days, that's 20 bucks an hour. A small stakes player can't be paying out that much in expenses.

Why not just go when rooms are cheap instead?

Or go when it's not summer so heat isn't an issue? Heat seems to your main problem other than being broke, and probably 7/12 months it would be little or no issue.

A newish vehicle should never overheat while idling. If it does, screw it, it's a rental.

Tunnels are not that bad man, also they get a pretty nice breeze running through. Get a 15 dollar tent and a 20 dollar air mattress from Target and you are good to go.

I would go in earlier right before sundown and make sure to ask if you can get crash for a few nights, most people who live in the tunnels are actually pretty decent people and they have permanent spots, so you can leave your tent and its very unlikely they will steal it, since they sleep in the same area each night.

Sleeping in a Van is going to be way too hot and expensive.

Just curious. Is there room to park a van in the tunnels?
