Best time (outside of summer) to go for softest cash games? Best time (outside of summer) to go for softest cash games?

I was thinking of heading to Vegas mostly to play some cards and soak up the vibe. Is there a time in the next few months where a convention of septuagenarians or dumb rednecks descend on Vegas? I don't have much of a sense of how much the games fluctuate throughout the year (besides the surge for the WSOP obviously).

I doubt know about the next couple months but march is a great time for poker ( march madness, spring break,st patricks day) imo its the best time to be in vegas. If march is too far away i would suggest new years. Also the poker is pretty good superbowl week(first week of february)

Gzesh, no offense—I love the uneducated.

Do many people come in for Thanksgiving, or is it generally just locals grinding on the holidays?

December 5-14 is a rodeo convention. Should be plenty of rednecks around that time. Cant comment on the poker though.

Thanksgiving week is one of the slowest weeks of the year for Vegas, as evidenced by comped, or dirt cheap hotel rates for locals from Sun-Thurs (Thanksgiving Day).

The Two Plus Two Forums - somigosaden</span> A job came up that I'm interested in, and I'm sure I could fake it till I make it, but a prerequisite is a Bachelor's degree, which I don't have because I left college early. Is it overwhelmingly common for even small companies to run a check that would bust me if I lied about it? I get that I could tell the truth, but if I have a 1% chance to get the job telling the truth, and a 5% chance lying

Memorial Day weekends seem to attract a lot of people to Vegas.

The answer to your question (which has only been asked several billion times) is that the softest time to come to Vegas is now, or later, or yesterday, or during the summer or spring or winter or fall, and is all dependent on where you’re playing and at what stakes and at what time and at what table and how good you are, and has absolutely nothing to do with any mythical mass of conventioneers or rednecks that also happen to be terrible at poker. Also, don’t come to Vegas if you’re looking for the best games but everyone else knows that by now.

Games are good during WSOP, especially during first two weeks, and during March Madness. The rodeo championships are a bust, as is the automotive afterparts convention. Don't laugh about the latter - those guys make huge money. In general, Vegas poker is at best 20% of the fun it was 10 years ago, with the exception of $1-$2 on busy weekends. The current crop of regs has no understanding of the value of providing entertainment, and thus fun is dying in Vegas poker. You're better off flying to nearly any remote casino for good poker. Underground games across America >>> Vegas poker. Sociable poker pros, what few there are left in Vegas, are almost uniformly making terrible financial choices by staying in Vegas.

Uneducated is not synonymous with "dumb".

I am highly educated, with advanced degrees from prestigious universities; does not keep me from being dumb.

Spot me a couple of years however and I'll also be a septuagenarian.

But hey, feel free take a seat in the game, there's one available for you and your preconceptions.

Vegas has, by far, the worst games in America.

I won't argue woth you, but note only that the NFR crowd is both entertaining on their own and they do like to play poker .... A couple of cowboy hats at the table are a good sign of a fun/good game.

I don't play much outside of Las Vegas or Central America, but live poker is not dead in either location and a sociable game works best.... and Las Vegas generally has one or two live sociable tourists in any lower level game on the Strip.

I'm not recommending this as a way to make a living by anyone as a pro player month in or month out, but the OP's question sought good times for "soft games".

So, if it is a terrible financial choice" to rely on poker for a living in Las Vegas, versus other cities, .....great, there are flights leaving here evey day to wherever .... OP asked about times to play in Las Vegas, not "wherever". Why should he fly to "wherever" the pros have migrated ?
