Although title could be taken to mean either when is the most profitable; when do the weaker players play, I meant it as when do these games normally fill up and a list is created?

I'm going on a Saturday/Sunday, and normally like to start my sessions about 9am until early afternoon, and then again after dinner. I know I've encountered 2 hour waits at times, and would like to avoid that if possible... even if it means changing my play times to earlier/later.

So any advice on when to start/stop? Does it coincide with daily MTT losing enough entrants to add extra PLO tables, or something else that I'm not considering? Thanks in advance.

EDIT TO ADD: Probably looking at playing 8-12 hours a day.

From my experience the 1/2 plo game "usually" starts before the 2/5/10 game, but anything is possible. On average, I'd say the 2/5/10 game starts anywhere from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the weekends. The list can fill up fast, so put your name on it early even if you're the first one. If you're far down the list you might have to wait a long time due to them not having enough dealers to open a second table due to the daily tourney and other games running. Not saying that is every day, but I've seen it happen many times.

This is very true. I have seen this several times on my trip. Hell, sometimes it never broke from the night before and is still running.

I forgot to mention that if you don't have it you should download the bravo app. That way when you get up in the morning you can see what is running and what there is a list for. Also put the Aria poker room # in your phone. That way if the list is already started you can call in to put your name on the list. Just be sure to check in at the desk when you get there.

What time do games start on weekdays? How short-handed do games tend to get before they break? if a 1/2 opens first, is it usually half-filled with people waiting for 2/5/10? What's the usual ratio of locals to tourists?

I don't know about weekdays (can't remember), but every time I've played PLO at Aria, it seems to be mainly regulars. I go three to five times a year, and the same players are always there.

Seems to be a few more tourists in the smaller game, but still lots of regs.

I second this. I was there last week and I was one of two non regs at the 2/5/10 game. Even when guys moved to the 25/25 game, the 2/5/10 just filled up with more regs. I ended up only playing one short session, which never happens.

I believe Aria is the only place that gets it running daily. I believe Bellagio, Venetian, and Wynn will run it if there are enough people to start a table, but no place has the demand Aria does.

Nobody off strip is running it either? Yikes.

unfortunately this is true. up until a year or so ago the game was almost always amazing but now it's reg filled and very nitty most of the time.

That sucks to hear. When I was out there for a month last March the game was freaking amazeballs.

I second this. I typically go during March madness and the games are better than an off convention/major weekend like my trip last week. With that said, Aria is known to be the main plo hub so it just keeps drawing more and more regs as time goes on. I will be there for March Madness this year and I hope it will be better than it was last week.

Would the super bowl be equatable to march madness, in terms of helping the ratio of tourists:nitty regs? Should I expect to see higher traffic in the poker room b/c of the SB? I actually heard a counterintuitive stat that SB weekend is like #50 out of 52 weekends for total hotel volume (as not a lot of conventions that weekend) in Las Vegas.

I kind of like playing the nitty regs. They get so tilted when the tourists (like me) beat them with lousy PLO play. It's so much fun! They are also fairly predictable -- not all, but many.

Have also played at Venetian and Wynn/Encore. Pretty good games when you can get them going.

If you believe that try to reserve a room right now and see how much you pay.

I like this as well when there is just a few of them, but when 7-8 out of 9 are solid regs, it’s just not smart table selection. When I was at that table I thought that famous line in my head, if you can’t spot the donkey at the table you’re probably it. lol.

Most of the regs that we’re there are also higher stakes players as well. They jumped to the 25/25 game and I think were trying to start a 50/100 game.
