Thanks for the suggestions.

to everyone saying stuff along the lines of 'Why go to Vegas if you don't like Vegas' - well yeah, sometimes it's not through choice. Unfortunately we can't choose where conventions are, and we can't choose our travel plans. Sometimes you're stuck in a city you don't like for a few days - that is the case here...

He likes the sound of the Flightlinez and will probably check out the library too. Was v.surprised when I mentioned about the library...

Have done a lot of times, south end of the Strip to Downtown is around 10 miles out and back.

If it's still dark(ish), I turn around at SLS. That's around 6 miles out and back.

Of those, nature is probably best. He goes on hiking holidays...
Valley of Fire is pretty cool and has a few ok hiking trails. If he likes nature it's a change from Red Rock. It's about an hour from the strip vs. around 35 minutes for Red Rock, might not be such a big difference with traffic.

Full and half day guided tours. Hot springs, cliff diving, Emerald Cave, beautiful clear water.

Full disclosure: I am a guide on the river
Good suggestions re the Colorado River spots, an under-appreciated, under-marketed amenity compared to Lake Mead.

Your post is a bit smarmy, yet funny on a likely unintended level.

(I am pretty sure no one has done it from a Luxor balcony more than once.)

The use of "once" was indeed unintentionally amusing.

I'm pretty surprised that's only happened once...

Lots of drunk people, losing lots of money - hotel room door opens out onto a ledge with 70-80ft drop...

I think I read that it happened another time, from floor 10, but that was a drunk accident, not an intentional leap.
