Pretty much non existant, pretty much anywhere in Vegas, but If I had to pick, I guess Dos Caminos at Venetian.

No. It's bland, it's boring. The best thing about the place is it's freaky bathroom.

They're all over town. 24 hours I think.

Just get bombed and take a cab to Del Taco like the rest of us.

You can at least get "real deal" margaritas using lime juice, no bar mix crap @ Diego's - MGM; Dos Camino's - Venetian and Border Grill - Mandalay Bay. All 3 have real regional Mexican food (take your chalupa and STUFF IT!) overpriced, of course, because it is on the Strip. Border Grill - conchinita pibil is yummy. Diego's does real moles - a long list of ingredients - at least 8 hrs. to prepare - can be real good. Dos Caminos has a lamb barbacoa and a short rib dish cooked in cazuelas... Well, not really cazuelas, they use cast iron dishes that kinda fill the same purpose. At least our waiter knew what a cazuela was!

Off campus (the Strip) try Los Mocaljetes, La Madonna or Bonita Michoacan for a more authentic Mex fix.

Oh, and for simple, real Mexican food you can always order a Caesar Salad, created by Caesar Cardenas in Tijuana Mex. during Prohibition.

And I think the white guy that founded Taco Bell (Ed Bell?) just died in the last couple of weeks. Maybe they'll have a special on.

I think its called Diablo's? Right in front of Monte carlo. Pretty good. Also, a good tapas rest. on Tropicana/Koval (I think these are the cross streets)

I would recommend Border Grill at Mandalay Bay. Excellent food and a nice drink menu as well. If you find yourself at Hard Rock, I am actually a fan of Pink Taco. The food is simple but fairly tasty in a great atmosphere at a very good price. As for Diablo's Cantina, I am not a fan of the food, but the location is good for drinks. I have never eaten at Dos Caminos, but I know a latin guy who used to work there and he spoke poorly of the food, so I have steered clear of their myself.

This is 2+2's official lunch meeting restaurant, I dont know authentic Mexican food from a whole in the wall so it might surprise you to know that I thought it was dumbed-down Americano style food at Bonita Michoacan.

Tapas is more of a Spanish thing than it is a Mexican thing.

As for mexican restaurants? lol.

I agree with TT on this one. I find the Lindo Michoacan family of restaurants (Bonito Michoacan, Lindo Michoacan, Viva Michoacan) to be highly overrated. It’s true that they are often presented/recommended as Las Vegas’ best Mexican restaurants. But I find that this is less of a testament to their quality than it is a testament to how truly mediocre our Mexican options really are. Those restaurants are just ok.

I’ve heard a fair amount of praise for La Madonna and La Mexicana and Los Molcajetes but I haven’t’ been. When I’m craving Mexican I usually just go to a whole in the wall taqueria.

I don't know what the best mexican on the strip is...I think Gonzalez y Gonzalez at NYNY is decent. I love the Michoacan places, though they are not on the strip. Their homemade flour tortillas are amazing, I could just eat them and nothing else and be happy.

Border Grill, and if you would have rather eaten at Chili's...then I don't know what to say. Border Grill is perhaps my favorite upscale Mexican restaurant around (although I've only been to the Vegas one once, and the Santa Monica one dozens of times).

I thought Garduño's over at Palm's was pretty good. Not Strip but thought worth a mention.

Part of the problem is defining "real" Mexican food. Mexico has a number of distinct regional cuisines + the overlay of tourist trash (think nachos). Out of each region tends to come a couple of dishes that really hit a homerun with local ingredients. The chef that seems to have the best handle on these regional applications is Rick Bayless, followed by the Border Girls.

If you get the chance, go to a really good Mexican market. It'll have a spice area of over 20 kinds of dried chilis - each with a different taste, smell and uses.

Border Grill is a chain. Taco Bell is a better chain.

"Real" Mexican food is not what anybody wants. It's damn awful.

Baja Fresh at Excalibur is good for a cheap big meal... the vegetarian stuff is tasty.

Really? I found Gardunos to be the quintessential soulless, uninspired, overpriced casino restaurant. The original one in New Mexico might be good but at the Palms location it seemed like they were just going through the motions.

Ever spent any time in Mexico outside the tourist zone?

Ready to say goodbye to...

Caesar Salad - created by Caesar Caredenas - Tijuana, BC Mex.
Margaritas - originally called El Picador - Rosarita area BC Mex.
Fish tacos - from the Ensenada fish market
Ceviche - in various forms all over the coasts
Huachinango - seasoned deep fried whole red snapper
are big time Mexican food

Lesser known try...

A good turkey mole or
Chiles en nogado (a walnut sauce)
or some birria de chiva on a cold winter morning before hunting cordoniz!

Some of the best food I've ever had (and some of the worst too) has been in Mexico. I miss my Baja Rat days.

Based on your prior food opinions, if I want to be bored out of my culinary skull. I'll dine with you.

He just said Taco Bell is better than Border Grill, I think it's safe to assume he is about a half-step above trolling.

I had Border Grill once because I know Susan Feniger's (one of the owners) nephew...I don't remember what I got, but I thought it was quite good and everyone I was with really enjoyed their meal also.

Can't even compare it to Taco Bell, that's an obviously idiotic comment.
