I read an article that you should put your suitcases in the bathtub because bedbugs can't climb up smooth surfaces. Maybe tell the maid why you're doing this so she doesn't freak out.

...which proves that the recent bedbug scare is nothing more than Media Hype preying on people like your wife. If you think that Aria is somehow magically exempt from having bedbugs because they don't show up on this list, then you're being naive.

I'd wager that just about every single major hotel on the planet has bedbugs, roaches, and rats somewhere on their premises.

Well, this site is just people reporting bed bugs, and the Aria may well have them. But I was shocked at some of the resort names that were on this list. So you are saying that bed bugs are cool and we shouldn't worry about bringing some home?

Let me guess, you were one of those guys who was concerned about the "risks" of Swine Flu in poker rooms.

...resisting the urge to ask where you met your wife...

...seriously, enjoy the Aria with your wife. I've heard great things about it. The Aria, I mean.

I worked on the Aria Hotel for nearly 3 years.

I have never I mean never seen a construction project that emphasised cleanliness so highly. and the finished rooms were under lock and key for nearly 1.5 years. all the air ducts were sealed off during construction. I worked around the head of MGMs houskeeping dept at the astetic mockups and I assure you the penguins there do back flips to get thing ultra clean esp the rooms. its a 5 diamond 5 star hotel with a leed seal of approval. Along with very high food service standards.

I highly doubt that you would find a bed bug in the place.

its a shame the casino is basically a graveyard the vast majority of the time and the poker room is well a also ran by Megacasino standards,

it is a very nicely appointed room but lacks one crucial item... players

SOME, but not all, Hilton Hotels use Tempurpedic mattresses that are immune to bedbug infestation. A solid block of layered dense foam is impermiable to bedbugs.

Also, there are two simple ways to keep bedbugs away from you in bed.

1. You know those cheap crappy bars of soap that few people actually use in a hotel? Simply unwrap the bar of soap and place it under the bottom sheet in the area where your legs go. Bed bugs will stay away.

2. Or, do the same thing with an UNUSED dryer sheet. Same result.

Source? I've been on the road 4 to 6 months a year staying in hotels for 40 years. You pick up these things over time.

I think when people contract stds, they just simply report it as a case of "bed bugs."

Have you even been to their poker room? Sounds like you just want to hate on Aria. It may not be at Bellagio or Venetian's level of business but they're doing damn well and running a great room.

heh-heh .. soap in the bed is also an urban myth for preventing leg cramps. I doubt it does anything for bed bugs either.

Your personal doubts aside, the soap does work for bed bugs and the yellow mustard referenced in your link does work for nocturnal leg cramps.

The soap does not kill bed bugs, so it is not an effective remedy AT HOME, but it does make them stay away from the area the soap is in, so it works in hotels where you aren't going to go through all of the extensive cleaning rituals described in your link.

My EXPERIENCE at what works v. your DOUBTS at what doesn't. Mmmmmm....
