Management friends said this is the plan going forward to help lower wage/benefit costs. (electronic craps drops from 4 employees to 1)

In this economic market and the fact that Biden and Walsh are pushing the PRO Act making it easier for workers to unionize - can you really blame companies for trying to downsize their labor force???

Imagine dropping, round numbers, 40 poker room staff, 40 craps dealers. just for starters... across multiple properties.
More on this . . .

Borgata had one of these stadium setups when I originally responded to this post. A couple of weeks ago I noticed they had another whole setup installed and running. They also had a number of stand alone roulette wheels where the wheel was vertical and only one person could play. They also had mini roulette setups with a horizontal wheel and several terminals surrounding it. The stadium setups also had roulette, and that wheel is manned by a person (I don't know why, it's electronic). The blackjack and baccarat stations are also hand dealt, but I think players can also play electronically. In addition to all of that, there were tons more new electronic slot machines throughout the casino. The whole place looked pretty cool with all the flashing lights and LED displays. It seemed like I was walking inside of a pinball machine. There were a number of people playing the stadium setups. I though maybe it could be a success.

But then . . .

Tonight I noticed one of the stadium setups was gone. I walked around in case it was not where I originally thought, or had been moved. But no, it had been removed. There seemed fewer roulette setups too. WTF? Why would they remove all of that so soon? New slot machines were in their place. Perhaps the manufacturer had installed the stadium games one a test basis so Borgata could see if they were profitable and Borgata decided one unit was sufficient. One drawback I can see is that they draw mostly smaller bettors, with players looking to bet quarters and hundreds preferring the traditional games, especially blackjack, baccarat and craps. If so, the slots may generate more revenue that the stadium games for the same square footage.

I wonder if any other casinos are downsizing their stadium games.

they are going to keep the minimal amount of employees as possible while maintaining revenue. they arent doing it for political reasons -- if it costs them 25% more to keep things running to maintain revenue they will.

if you dont like it, just vote with your feet and these private companies will listen only after you affect their bottom lines.

I'm not sure which post you're responding to. If it's mine, you missed the point. It's just an observation that a new technology that had recently been installed had quickly been downsized. No mention of political motivations or whether or not I or others liked it. Obviously, a company is going to make decisions on what it thinks will increase revenue and/or decrease expenses.

George, I have no clue wtf you are talking about. Borgata set up only 1 area for stadium gaming. It is next to B Bar. The other are near Bobby Flay they cleared to put all the video poker machines. Nothing was downsized.

Correct. But, in the gambling world gamblers gonna gamble. Why Vegas is getting away with triple 0 roulette. Was there last week and they had triple 0 packed with ppl and right next to it a double 0 wheel with only 2 people playing. Not to mention this younger generation of gamblers are idiots. Never could a casino offer 8 deck bj where bj pays 6 to 5. But they do now, and these people play it. Few times I tried to enlighten other and was meet with the I don't care, who cares, I'm just here for fun responses. Like that makes their shitty choices legit.

Why would you care and why should they care if they're not worried about the money?

If somebody wants to buy for 2 Big Mac even though Burger King next door has a 2 for 1 deal on the Whopper, are you approaching them at the McDonalds counter?

There is one setup next to B Bar. Then they added a second stadium setup at a right angle to it facing B-Bar with some stand alone electronic tables scattered between the two (the screens were about 80-100 feet from the B-Bar). Then they removed the second stadium setup and replaced them with electronic slots and whatever. The other day they were removing the slots and video poker from near the cashier cage and adding more stand alone electronic table games (blackjack and craps and some other new stuff). If you blinked you would have missed the second setup, or maybe you didn't walk over to that area during the short time it was there. None of this was near the restaurants towards the back of the sports book, which is, as you pointed out, where many of the video poker machines were moved, some replacing unused blackjack and other table games next to Bread and Butter. Bobby Flay has been gone for several weeks (at least).

Yeah I was told that by Flamingo dealers on Sunday/Monday. They were PISSED as they were bamboozled at the last minute by El Dorado/CET.

Obviously a nut low move but I doubt there was a single dealer who was surprised by the announcement and how it was handled?

Yeah when I was playing at Caesars last week there were Flamingo dealers talking about how they couldn’t wait to get back there after Thanksgiving. They had no clue.

No clue? This has been a topic of conversation for 6 months in all the Caesars/Flamingo/Ballys/PH rooms. I'm sorry for those dealers, but it shouldn't have come as a surprise. I hope they'll be offered jobs across the street.

You had to be living under the Grand Canyon to have no clue.

The rumor had been around since the closure of the PH poker room. If you check the first couple posts in this thread, there are multiple people who reported that Flamingo didn't get a date for reopening and/or was going to close. And nobody assumed that they would announce a permanent closure while the WSOP was underway to avoid bad press and unhappy employees.

The Flamingo was actually the first room I played at after moving out here. I had a win on a Sunday night in a 1-5 stud game.

I remember making my first straight flush there- 8 high in clubs caught on the river after being open-ended on 4th street.

I only played there occasionally while playing small stakes. The comp options weren't as good as other small rooms. But, when I was in the mood for foot-long hotdogs, I went to the Flamingo.

Will miss this place even though i wouldnt much play there anymore. One of my most dejecting losses in a set over set hand happened here and i just remember leaving feeling like crap, like a 1k pot at 1-2. Sad that itll be gone, a place that epitomizes vegas to me

Has anyone heard if Ballys is keeping their poker room open? Their website has it listed. But the Flamingos website still has poker listed too.

It is actually good that rooms like Flamingo close, would be perfect if only Wynn/Resorts world/Aria/Bellagio/Golden Nugget remained, as it would concentrate the crowd a bit more. Before they were too spread out, now all the OMCs have to actually grind for their money haha.

Also a fun little story about my last experience at Flamingo. Sat down early morning as it was the only game running close by. Fold first 4 hands, 5th hand 3bet AdKd, get 4bet by the drunk guy, I jam and he calls with AA. Flop JTx, turn x river Q. Guy left and the table snap broke, $/hr went through the roof!

Bravo shows that Bally's poker room will re-open on 11/26 @ 10am, they have several promos listed. Bravo also shows Flamingo poker room as being permanently closed.

Gonna miss the Flamingo. It's the only room I would make sure I played at every trip to Vegas. Always found the games to be really good.

He's right though. Nobody benefits from a gazillion poker rooms that are almost never busy outside of WSOP time.

Consolidation of Strip poker rooms was overdue.

As long as casinos can support more rooms, IMO more options for players is better. Now if the options were either close both or close one, then one is better than two closing. Obviously in this case CET felt consolidation was better.

Did Flamingo have a promo fund? Any discussion on disposition?
