I'm in a pretty poor mental state, so I'll make a short update.

$20,000 in cash was stolen out of my hotel safe at bally's, I was planning on flying back that night so I took it out of my box at Wynn. I didn't bother filing a police report or anything with hotel management, as I know any attempt will be moot given that there are no cameras. The only thing I can really do is treat this as pain tolerance, and also wait until my replacement ID comes in the mail so I can continue on this depressing grind at MGM Grand Detroit. It's a significant chunk of my bankroll so it's pretty shitty.

I made $4,630 from playing deepstack 2/5 and some 5/10 bellagio, and also had a $6,975 score by finishing in 11th place in a Wynn $1,100 200K GTD event.

Live cash results of this year so far, 1100 hour sample, does not include any online results on pokerstars MI or ignition

I am very likely the biggest NLHE winner at MGM Grand Detroit but it's not really saying that much (430h sample & $135/hour), it's more or less just playing solid vs. buttonclickers

Terrible news about the $20k theft. Might be a good idea to report it anyway in case he is caught with a lot of cash. At least you'll be on record and might get some back.

Probably a good idea to report it so that somewhere down the line they can hopefully spot a pattern and get rid of the shitty employee who's ripping off guests.

ugh that really sux about the 20k. Getting ripped off is a real problem as a pro and it has happened to me and multiple pals of mine. I do not trust hotel safes (and am sure you no longer do as well). When I am travelling with amounts less than 30k I can keep it on me pretty easily. A money belt can hold 20 no prob and I can keep 10 in a front pocket. If you dont like holding that much many casinos will have boxes that hotel guests can use which is different from the poker room boxes.

Its really hard not to take it personally. Its not you, you just got targeted and unlucky. Do your best to shake it off and move foreword and make sure it doesnt happen again.

all the best

That sucks, man

Think about access... who knew or saw you have 20k in cash to put in your room safe?

I'd definitely fill out a report, too

brutal man and yes, you need to file no matter what even if remotely

and agreed with tj come up with a list of anyone you know who would have known about it and who would have had access - this is less about recovery but more about keeping an extra guard up vs those people

when i played i had something similar happen but 4 figs instead of 5 and it was my apartment, no signs of breakin, nothing else missing, there was a total one person who had access and info but other than that had no proof and was moving out anyway but that's when i learned to always lie and say i left my playing cash at the casino

but that woman popped up again later in my life to go at it again, which is why you should construct that list and be on guard against any potential people beyond hotel staff and be a little extra cagey with them in the future regarding accomodations etc

i know this sounds paranoid, but you also can't rule out someone swiping your card off you then replacing it before you noticed ie grabbing from jacket while out for drinks and passing off then returning it an hour later when you go to piss - it sounds absurd but if people know a 5 fig payday possible they'll do these things

Relegades,

That is beyond ****ed up that you were robbed. I would definitely fill out a police report. As you said, you had a profitable trip playing poker, and for this to happen on your last night is a punch to the gut. Hoping for better things sir.

You should’ve contacted hotel security right away. You say there are no cameras, but there are cameras in the hallway, which would show anyone who entered your room.

Hey guys, I'll be at Las Vegas today-30th of this month. I'll be playing the usual, 2/5 $500-$1500 max & 5/10 $1500-$3000 max.

I had my 24th birthday last week, but spent the week up until now in the hospital. Turns out that I have ulcerative colitis, which is a form of IBD. Basically my immune system attacks my own colon and inflammation/bleeding occurs.

This time wired $20K cash from MGM Grand Detroit --> Aria & will be keeping vast majority of funds in front money/Wynn security box by the end of each night. TBH idk why I didn't just do this earlier, given that the level of play I have/income is going to require tax returns by EOY/recripts anyways...

Time for an update:

I just wrapped up another trip to Las Vegas, in which I played Wynn 2/5, Bellagio 5/10 & 10/20, Aria 2/5 and 5/10, and a few MTTs. I ended up placing 16th in the Wynn mystery bounty for ~$16,000, along with $5,500 in bounties by knocking out two players.

Bricked two satellite bullets into the Wynn millions main, bricked two bullets in the Venetian $1,100 one day, and one entry into a Venetian $600 MTT. Probably the most tilting part of the trip was when a woman who covered me had me at risk holding the NFD, and I hold KK with the Kh. In a nutshell I squeezed on the BTN after the woman opens and a dead money player flats, both players end up calling. Flop is T high w/ two hearts and the woman donk rips all in with AQhh, I obviously snap call. Turn is clean, river is an offsuit A lol....table tap and leave quietly thinking internally how players can be so silly in a $1,100 event

Perhaps one of these days I'll be more serious about improving at MTT's, however I think just being patient/not spewing & playing solid PF ranges and not bluffing 90%+ of field early on alone is going to be worth at least 1.1 MU (given the amount of spew and punts I see in them). Like I said I'm no MTT pro and cash is my expertise, however I would like to believe that I likely have an edge on field in buyins up to ~$1.6k & can sell action at a reasonable MU. Maybe if I learn short stack play & ranges (<20bb), I could justify 1.2MU in the future.

Oh yeah, I saw quads over quads within 30 minutes of landing at Las Vegas, lol. Would be a $250,000+ bad beat jackpot at MGM Grand Detroit which is my main casino back home. I also got to play with Patrik Antonius for a bit in 10/20 Bellagio, however didn't play long as I quickly recognized that I was likely up against ~3-4 european sickos and 1-2 VIPs at the most. Lastly I ran into Parker Talbot AKA tonkaaap AKA HS online MTT sicko, I ended up pitching in $1,000 along with him and two of his buddies and we ended up splitting $4,500 four ways after about an hour or two of dice. Figured that it's a once in a lifetime type experience, so why not?

Maybe one of these days I'll start vlogging again & start a YouTube channel up again, seems like if you keep at it & don't spew out a bunch of nonsense there is a lot of room for growth.

Anyway, here's a photodump. I'm actually in Chicago right now waiting for my layover to Boston, visiting a friend & will be playing Encore Boston Harbor 5/10 when I get the chance on Monday. I've mentioned it in the past, but I'm most active on instagram with my handle being @ymo1197. I post stories of random stuff going on & usually whenever I fire up a poker session.

Yeah, so tilting when you have a flush draw and the bla bla bla. Can't pass up those once in a lifetime opportunities to play craps. You're right, you should get serious about improving your MTTs... by selling action at a reasonable MU! Success is right around the corner! Don't change a thing!

Wow, no ****...

I've played a lot with the OP in the local 2/5 games in our area in the past. He's an absolute crusher, and I'd guess that they were the biggest winner in our little game by a wide margin.

Coming from someone who is clearly a recreational player, I appreciated the way OP carried themselves at the table as they were always engaging, friendly, and gave action. Compared to most of the local "pros", OP was one of the few that seemed to have it together and was not dreadful to spend time with at the table.

I'm glad to see that you're having success. You're a class act. Hopefully, you're on to bigger and better things and will leave our game behind, ha! Keep working hard.

thanks! i've been playing chasers $2/$5 NL and encore boston $5/$10 yesterday and most likely today/tomorrow, think i'm up about ~$4,000 so far since arriving in Boston.

ooo i just realized that i forgot to mention that the woman actually who covered me STOOD UP while i'm the player at risk, as if she made some sort of grave error/mistake vs. me and felt horrible. obviously when the offsuit A rolled on the river, all i could do is internally eyeroll and just table tap/say "nice hand" hehe. as for the dice situation, yeah i don't really know any of the bets on dice, other than you want to match your first number you rolled before you roll a seven. from my perspective it was a once in a lifetime opportunity, given that parker talbot was a twitch streamer i would watch very often on twitch and have as one of my alltime favorite MTT players to actually watch without it being dreadful years ago.

i think selling action at a reasonable MU is fine, and i know with my experience live+postflop ability i will have an edge in fields up to ~1.1-1.6k. reducing variance & being able to play more MTTs in the long run is completely fine. while i will never claim to be the best player in the world and constantly have my ego in check, i know my worth.

this truly is the nicest thing i've ever heard from anyone about my game, haha. i think just being around ethan/rampage poker for a decent amount and getting to know him as a person with how genuine and kind he is has taught me a bit about how i should conduct myself as a person around others. garrett adelstein also is a notable example as well, an all-around class act. with the exception of the very few truly goodregs i come across (good sizing pre/post, intuitive & nonintuitive bluffs, frequencies, congruent reasoning w/ ranges across all streets consistently, etc). i don't really have that much to pick up from garrett's game, however his mannerisms and etiquette/class shown at the table have it such that anyone can learn something new from him.

i will always table my hand first if i think i have the winner. at the end of the day i know that many of the players i play with are here with me simply for recreation or to have an enjoyable time playing, and i'm not here to make anyone's time miserable. if anything, i at least want them to have an enjoyable time and come back, win or loss. to be a recreational player or a VIP in a game means that you're a crusher in another aspect of life, whether it be in business/law/healthcare/etc. and honestly, that's the way to go about it imo for 95%+ of people.

i'm all for creating a friendly and social environment as well if i think i can, so i'm not afraid of showing hands i lay down. there's a whole topic on whether or not one should show, but i think it's overall +EV in live because players will overadjust by thinking i'm too tight/loose in all spots or that i'll fold to any/all aggression, it encourages others to show & i will utilize the information better than other players.

ex. yesterday at encore boston harbor 5/T 1.5k max:

UTG self-proclaimed OMC open limps,
UTG+1 (lawyer who has been playing decent & somewhat snug) isos to $50 (standard size by him).
i flat AKs UTG+2, as i was already somewhat suspicious of the OMC just open limping pre. yes, it is standard to 3bet here, but if there are any combos of AK to flat, it's going to be AKs>AKo
folds back to OMC who backraises to $180, UTG+1 mucks and i just decide to muck faceup. totally fine to call here as well though as well, merits to both.

while there's still a ton of merit of still playing AKs IP, i know i'm up against a range of AK/QQ+ & figure against this opp. in specific i'm not really picking up another dime with my hand if i do connect. i fold faceup and visibly have the guy mindblown/thinking about my fold even 30m after playing the hand, calling me a nit for the rest of the session. OMC does end up showing QQ faceup, which would be my bestcase scenario vs him other than AKs/AKo. i also figured that there would be somewhat of a tilt factor if he actually does have AA/KK, on top of the entire table assigning me as a meganit or something. and for 5BB, i think that's worthwhile.
