Hey guys, for the first time I'm going to play in the WSOP. I will play the Giant on Friday and unless I win something crazy, miss the Main but play the One Drop. I am staying at the Gold Coasts Hotel across the street, walking distance. A few questions.
My one rule. If you give a snarky answer, please be helpful as well. I'm really pumped. Thanks guys.

1- Is it really cold in the Rio? Should I bring a sweater?
2- Any sorta healthy options? How is the food?
3- Is there like a super market nearby? I won't have a car.
4- Are there any cool WSOP parties that I can go to?

1- depends on where you are from. Bring a hoodie/sweater just in case. Put it on the back of your chair if you are not too cold
2- All American Daves truck
4- july 7th Upswing Poker 2+2 party

Okay Ill be helpful as well
If you get in a SNG with a guy named TRooper and his buddy Harry is on the table as well then you best watch for collusion or better yet unregister.

I will collude with you if you give me some cash OP.

I also am leaving Friday for the giant and the online bracelet event. Same as you, hope to make a score to enter the main or win a satty.
Pumped to be out there again. Good luck to us both.

And yes Rio is cold. Bring a hoodie

LOL at issuing rules when soliciting replies

Couple things,

To me, it doesn't seem as cold in Amazon/Pavilion as in years past, some years I swear it felt like water could freeze in there. A long-sleeve t-shirt should be suffice, or just bring a light jacket.

There is a Smith's supermarket a couple blocks down Flamingo from the Rio, definitely not walking distance, but easy Uber/Taxi distance. Otherwise, the sundry shop in the Rio is decently stocked depending on what you are looking for.

Food at the Rio is meh at best, especially if you are trying to eat healthy. Daves truck outside Amazon is good, but at $25 a meal (I wouldn't say generouos portions either) it's not cheap. Cheaper if you buy a prepaid meal plan but I don't think you'll be there long enough for it to make sense.

Thanks...this is really helpful. I'll def hit up the Smith's. Do they give you a food voucher for playing in the tournaments?

Not anymore, it's automatically loaded onto your players card, and it usually takes at least a day for it to show up (I guess they want to make sure you aren't reg'ing/unreg'ing for the comps)

Not to be a brat but isn't this way the wrong forum for this? LVL would be perfect

1. Yes. Absolutely. People say they keep it intentionally cold to force people to buy one of the over-priced hoodies.
2. **** off with this nonsense.
3. Not within walking distance, but there's a Smith's at Flamingo and Decatur, about a mile away. That might sound like walking distance if you're from a place where walking is the norm, but you absolutely cannot walk that far (and back) in this desert heat.
4. Someone else covered this.

Rio ballrooms are microclimates. You might be fine in one seat at one table and freezing somewhere else. Might end up right under a vent. Just be prepared, bring layers. It's pretty miserable playing deep in a tourney with your arms shaking.

I was really only cold if under one of the vents and then it was hot chocolate or baileys and coffee time, I had brought a light jacket and did use it a couple times during my visit sitting at the tables
