"It's all free" said Matt, a 27 year old grinder from the Bay Area. "Not only is it free (Including NYE and New Years), but they give me $200 in food credit and $200 in gambling chips as well." No ****ing way. I needed to figure out how this was happening. I've been wasting thousands of dollars over the past year on something that was absolutely unnecessary. I felt like Tyson, accept my Lion, was only a hotel room. So we got to talking about the catch behind "free" and eventually Matt told me about what he refers to as "The system."

The first step of the system is finding a hotel aimed at gaining "young money." Hotels like Aria and Cosmopolitan are fine choices, while the Bellagio and the Wynn may not be the best fits for the situation. Once you've located you're prey, according to Matt, the next step is going to the cage to purchase your chips. Always purchase your chips at the cage. Exposure is everything.

Hand the cage $1,000 with your players card, and strike up a friendly conversation with the attendant. Make sure the attendant knows that your intention is to play blackjack until all of the money is gone or until you are rich. Perception is everything.

The next step is to take those ten black chips to the blackjack table. Again, hand the dealer your card and again involve yourself with the staff, making it blatantly obvious that you are here for a good time and that money is not an obstacle. Place $100 down and get ready for the first shoe. You will play either one shoe or until you are down $400. If you are down $400, let the dealers know that this table does not feel lucky and that you need a change of scenery.

Once you finish your session, lets say you break even, you take your $1,000 in chips and bring it to a different cage then the original one. At this cage you cash in your chips, take your $1,000 and return to the first cage. Using the same attendant from the first transaction you explain to her how unlucky you were in losing your first $1,000, but that you are not a quitter. You hand her the same $1,000 you bought in with originally and tell her to send you some lucky chips. Once you get those chips you take them back to your room and cash them out the next day.

Matt says he does this once a trip and every month he's sent offers from Aria to come stay, eat and gamble gamble for free. He says that even if he loses the $400, which he sets as his limit, he makes up for it ten fold in comps from the casino. Today will be my first shot at "the system".
I don't know anything about the rest of what you have said, but one thing's for sure; whoever told you this has less than no clue about how casinos work, and was lying to you. I would call into question anyone's intelligence that actually even considers that this is true. Do you have any updates as to how this "system" worked for you?

This thing only worked back in the day when all the play tracking was done at cages/at the discretion of the pit bosses.

Your right up to a point. If his friend really was doing the $400 thing and not hitting his stoploss very quickly, he could still concievably be getting decent comp offers based on his play, and not on his absurd histrionics, and just not realize its all computerized and the image hes portraying is irrelevant. Especially playing at a recently opened casino that is, presumably, looking to develop clients.

I dont think one would have to be stupid to believe that story -- just ignorant of how casino comping generally works -- a somewhat specialized field of knowledge.

It was almost never done at the cages, and even when something like this COULD have POSSIBLY worked, (back in the junket days), you still had to show ID usually when cashing out, etc. Those days have been gone for about t 35 years

You likely missed the part were he said one shoe or $400, which will get you next to nothing. The way he tells it, really, you could just skip playing bj at all and just buy 1k in chips every 30 min and get comped like crazy.

I am going to flamed for this, but has anyone else noticed how much different Matt's writing has gotten. It is a great read, but god damn has it ever gotten too philoshophical- it's like he thinks he is god or something. Read the first few replies and then read the last few...there is such a change in his writing style.

His style isn't Hellmuthian or annoying at all so it's not a detriment to the thread. I think he reserves the right to write any way he sees fit. I think he also might be getting high more often than not.

AND, I think he's getting bored with it. He's posting 2-3 times a month(?). I'd like to hear more about this Tweet.

theres a difference between complaint and criticism. We all get that there's a contingent of posters who dont think there should be any criticism itt. Posts like yours, which contribute nothing except the message "dont post" arent appropriate.

I think this is where you're losing a lot of people. Some of your points on poker/vegas are fine and constructive to an extent, but when you start criticizing his writing style (or backing others that are), to me that merely looking a gifthorse in the mouth at best, and trolling at worst.

I would never have written what I did in response to a strategy criticism that was polite...but talking shyt about writing styles and content? Really? No one makes you guys read this thread.

Nice to hear about you're success Matt. Just curious, but what is your hourly rate? I hear people making about $50/hr at 2/5 and it sounds like you make a lot more than 10bb/hr at 5/10 and 10/20.

Bro, I've been doing this professionally since 1980, you can't let it destroy you. You have to have passion for the game but don't let it turn you into the type of bitter player you described in your post. Its all about balance in your life. You can't love to play TOO much. The only way you can win the big money that can set you up for life is to have some adventurism in you. The tournaments are the way to go. Take pops in them, but your bread and butter will be the side games. Just remember win like an elephant, lose like a canary. If your luck is bad and your beginning to tilt, get up and quit. Most players do this in reverse, when they win they can't wait to quit, but these same players tilt all there money off on a bad day. GL
