All of the loose, fun gambly types went broke and back to their home games. The on-spectrum millennials with video gamer mentalities took their places as Vegas in the bigger rooms. Most of the people we're complaining about are introverts by nature, or mad at the world. They won't change their nature, or style of play.

Yeah I agree. Although I didn't go broke. I'd just rather risk my disposable gambling income away from the poker tables, which for the most part now are about as fun as a colonoscopy without the sedation...

“But everybody berates the fish.”

Someone actually said that to me when I talked about being nice to fish, not berating them, etc. He acted like a fish was a complete idiot because the guy didn’t take 1-3 NL seriously and was just trying to have fun and gamble. This reg cared more about his ego and thinks the non-regs are morons and despises them, even in a 1-3 NL game. With some people it’s just hopeless.

Irony.

“The Fish” are usually successful people blowing a few 100s on poker as entertainment whole on vacation or business trip.

Those Fish probably look at those 1/2 Nits as “Life Fish”. Miserable creatures with no insurance, 401-k, reliable income, paid vacation, etc....

There is plenty of poker to play if you have to play, but it is not fun right now. Recently I was at a 2/5 table at Aria where everyone looked miserable. I looked around the room and every other table also looked miserable. I haven't been back since.

yes this is exactly how I view it. I am a rec player and...newsflash...I know there are pros in the game and I know they are better than me. I really don't need them to entertain me. I probably wouldn't find many of them all that interesting.

Why do they insist on "outing" themselves as pro players? I think it is rooted in insecurity. They know they are better than us at poker but they also know most of us rec's are better than them at most everything else. Acting "pro" is the only way they can feel good about themselves and their loser lifestyle. Go ahead and wear your headphones. IDGAF.

Agreed with the disagree lol.

If the job of poker players is to provide quality customer service to recs, then should we not also provide them with rebates/discounts so that they have money to keep coming back? How bout get felted once and the second ones on me!

Nice strawman. (or men, I suppose)

Those things have little or nothing to do with the points being made above. If the games are enjoyable, more people play. If you (or the pros I suppose) do things to make the games less enjoyable for the rec players, they will likely elect to risk their money elsewhere. If they do that, less money for the pros to win. It isn't that hard.

a lot of the "fish" lose a ton at poker, but many win at life , and so can be happy for you when you win from them and a lot of ppl dont get that.

instead they s****** about bet sizing or flatting 3b oop with "that" hand to their buddies and make it awkward for the player as he can obv hear.

seat changes are another thing that piss recs off, its all about the EV+ tho suppose

Talking strat at the table is an ongoing issue with Vegas pros as well

The part that amazes me is they still get action. When some guy has been watching a movie on his iPad for the last hour and he suddenly looks up and opens a pot, do you think he’s ever bluffing? Somehow they still get paid...my advice to any rec who says these guys are hurting their enjoyment is to just ignore them and give them zero action.

I, too, like to have fun when I play. Sometimes the only way I can do this is to have fun with the regs.

For example, I usually drink at the table, and sometimes a lot. On one such occasion I won a nice pot against a reg by bluffing until I got there. The next time I went to the bathroom, he seat changed to my immediate left. When I got back I asked the dealer where the other guy went, was he mad? He said I'm right here and I told him no, you're not that guy. I kept him going for 5 minutes then racked up.

Obv this doesn't work on hoodie backpack iPad kid. For those jfez has the best take. Count them. If N = 1, don't give them any action ever. If N > 1 change table / room.

No clue how that relates here but I’d love to see Lake Tahoe.

Played at a fun table at Aria few weeks ago. One hoody, ipad, headphone guy played roughly one hand an hour. Bitched about his latte, dealer speed and how the socializing was slowing things down. Table agreed to give him zero action for rest of night. Collusion yes...problem solved.

What do these regs actually do on their tablets on the table though?

I've never encountered any of these tablet pros lol, partially because I've never been to Vegas.

Most of them literally watch movies.

Worse, there is a Wynn reg who I have somehow been seated with on my last 2 trips!! who buys in for 15 blacks, plays (seriously) less than 10% of hands, and watches animal youtube videos.

I was playing in a game the other day where a complete noob sat down to the table. She didnt know how to bet or basically how to do anything. The dealer explained the basics as best he could to someone who had zero understanding of the game.

Of course there were a couple of dudes at the table that were laughing at her.....she even told them "that isnt very nice" to be laughing at her. One guy even tried to angle shoot her. Not kidding. It was pretty bad. I couldnt believe these guys behaviour it was pretty appalling especially the one dude that tried to angle shoot her.

Yeah it is very rare to run across a reg that tries to make the games fun. In fact, I can think of only a couple offhand. I myself tend to get into my own little world and not talk either. But I've actually found that usually when I start talking to people, I'm in a better mood and it helps when you're having a bad day at the table ie it takes your focus off your problems. So at least for me, I've found conversation not to be just better for the game, but better for myself from a mental standpoint.

I completely agree with not berating bad players when they suck out on you, and I also agree with not talking strat or seat changing to target a fish, since I think that all three of these are pretty intimidating to rec players.

However, I spend all day at my job talking to people, and being somewhat introverted, I find it relaxing to just sit and play some poker. Although I don't wear headphones, sometimes I wish I did, given the idiotic and/or deplorable comments I sometimes hear from my fellow players.

If my generally quiet demeanor and somewhat nitty play is a detriment to the game, then the game itself is probably not very good, and any disappointed grinders can go find something else to do if they think someone like me is ruining the vibe at the table.
