The Summerlin ballpark is in an awesome area, looks amazing and I don’t even live close to Summerlin but still prefer the A’s being there (and in multiple other locations off the Strip). I would be happy to drive there to see a few games.

If A’s move is already a done deal, tanking to enable a move doesn’t make sense. Could be something with the current stadium contract.
Couple blocks just a lil too far to mess with vibe imo

$55 to park in the NYNY garage today because of the Finals. Another reason we don’t need another pro team on the Strip.

Baseball is also not that popular with young people.

I don’t know a single local that is excited about this. I probably am the most excited because I like the idea of other teams coming to town like the Dodgers for example, although the A’s rarely play them.

You do now. I’m excited.

You put Madison Square Garden out in West Chester suburb it’s just not the same.

Same thing out in Summerlin. Even a few blocks away, not the same.

But as an aside, a Canadien team hasn’t won the Stanley Cup in 30 years but Las Vegas has a chance to bring it home right on the world famous Strip. Who cares what price of parking is lol

I had not realized the Canada Dry streak was so long.

Don Cherry must be hanging on for something. Maybe next year, eh ?

(Yes, I know it's a baseball thread, but it's swerved into hockey by now.

Puck is dropping in 1 minute?

Puck is dropping in less than two hours

Wasn’t trying to swerve the thread. Just trying to make a point of not sweating the small stuff and just realize that it is special. And more special on the Strip.

Looking at that artist rendering, there is a lot of dead frontage on LVB.

I think the point about location is pretty moot. I highly doubt anyone is interested in bringing a major sports team to Vegas without having it in close proximity to the Strip.

Vegas is the 40th largest media market in the country and the average guest at a Strip resort has little interest in getting to know Summerlin.

I get it, a strip location is great. But at least develop that frontage to generate some revenue, instead of it being green space or a parking lot vacant 275 days of the year.

Maybe the rendering intended to leave that area unimproved to spike interest, IDK.

I have little interest in getting to know Summerlin myself. But I do think guests can care about traffic and parking fees.

One of the locations being talked about was a bunch of empty land where Warm Springs and Las Vegas Blvd is. Much closer than Summerlin and enough room to put in parking spaces and charge for them. It’s also very close to other hotels like South Point and Silverton.

However, I think there was talk about a soccer or NBA stadium possibly being there so maybe that was more difficult to pull off.

I actually would have been happy by the spot closer to Allegiant so the traffic issues wouldn’t be as bad.

I care and I’ve paid much more than $55 for playoff tickets this year. But I just parked in a different garage where I know they accept my Pearl card. And unlike poker players that complain about walking too far from the parking garage to the poker room, I don’t mind the walking.

So has it negativity affected me? Not much; I’m just more concerned about how far things will go with the parking fees. Back when the parking fees first came out, a common thing I heard was “It’s only $10.”

First renderings always look that way. I tried to find the architect meme that shows the four steps of how they go from a rendering with tons of green space to a final product that barely has any. Unfortunately my google search skills suck.

My bad. When I said that nobody was interested in an off-strip location I meant "nobody who is trying to make money from the situation".

David Tucker from Calgary would love to be paying $55 for parking right now and going to Finals

But visitors on Strip can easily get there. And locals should know exactly what to do to get free parking or maybe you shell out $2 for a round trip on monorail

I really, really hope this falls through somehow. The A's owner is cheap. The stadium will be built on the cheap leveraging as much public money as possible while investing very little of his own money. Cheap, cheap, cheap.

Instead, I want an owner who will have vision and see the benefits of Vegas as a destination city.

Let's face it, a decent portion of the crowd at any baseball game in Vegas is going to be tourists from other cities coming out to watch their hometown team. This should be a trip that makes them go home and tell all of their friends. A trip that makes them want to come year after year.

It should be an experience.

Make the stadium part of a greater complex where there are lots of other entertainment options. Restaurants, shows, comedy clubs, stuff like Area 15, whatever. Make it memorable.

Make it a place a father in Atlanta, Chicago, New York or Texas, or wherever will want to take his kid every year.

Instead, I see the A's owner using public money to build a small stadium that will be a novelty because it is new for a year or two, but then they will sink into mediocrity because he is a cheap bastard and doesn't invest in the team.

Meh.

I would rather wait to have an expansion team with a more forward thinking owner than have the A's move to Vegas

It should be noted that the A's didn't use to be a small market team. They used to have more people attend their games that the Giants did. Then they got a cheap owner while the Giants invested in growing the experience and have lapped the A's.

Sad.

What have you got against green space ? Given the inevitable public subsidy, why not create, you know, a park for public use ?

If the stadium will be enclosed/domed, why not add an open space, outdoors to the experience. People walk the Strip all summer long, this could be a better alternative, so long as there are drinking fountains included.

I live in Henderson, which has a ton of parks everywhere. I think some green space around the Strip area would be a justification for at least some of the public spend on this.

Why? Vehicle traffic has not been bad at all for any of the hockey games or Raiders games on the highway or strip. It's the F1 stuff that has screwed things up for months.

Pretty expensive green space, don't you think?

If the city/state don't want to subsidize the move, at least provide an opportunity for the owner to defray the cost of a $2B stadium. Put the green space on the other side of the parcel. It would function basically identical to it fronting the strip. Better, perhaps, as it would be away from strip traffic and others who have no interest in utilizing green space.

Is 'green space' simply another way of saying 'homeless encampment' ?

The A's (or any other MLB team) aren't going to move to Las Vegas in the foreseeable future without public money. There are several other owners looking for money for a new stadium right now (Kansas City, Tampa Bay) and Rob Manfred just thinly veiled threatened the Brewers with relocation unless they get public money to upgrade their stadium.

If they're building the stadium on the Tropicana site, the Strip facing side isn't going to look anywhere like those renderings. The funny thing is that 99.9% of the time people complain that the final product is significantly less green and open than the initial renderings showed. Hearing someone say there's too much open/green space is something new.
