I really, really hope this falls through somehow. The A's owner is cheap. The stadium will be built on the cheap leveraging as much public money as possible while investing very little of his own money. Cheap, cheap, cheap.
Instead, I want an owner who will have vision and see the benefits of Vegas as a destination city.
Let's face it, a decent portion of the crowd at any baseball game in Vegas is going to be tourists from other cities coming out to watch their hometown team. This should be a trip that makes them go home and tell all of their friends. A trip that makes them want to come year after year.
It should be an experience.
Make the stadium part of a greater complex where there are lots of other entertainment options. Restaurants, shows, comedy clubs, stuff like Area 15, whatever. Make it memorable.
Make it a place a father in Atlanta, Chicago, New York or Texas, or wherever will want to take his kid every year.
Instead, I see the A's owner using public money to build a small stadium that will be a novelty because it is new for a year or two, but then they will sink into mediocrity because he is a cheap bastard and doesn't invest in the team.
Meh.
I would rather wait to have an expansion team with a more forward thinking owner than have the A's move to Vegas
