Doesn't really matter if the money comes from Adelson or Goldman Sachs?

Besides that, they obv. could do without public money but why would they want to do that? Who says no to free money?

People who have to shell out for the free money.

This may be the first time in my life I've rooted for Goldman Sachs.

Adelson is officially out.

So who puts up the missing $650M ?
01-31-2017 , 12:12 AM
A couple of weeks ago, they said they had a commitment from Goldman Sachs as backup plan.

If Golden Sack does step up, the Raiduhs are a lot better off. Adelson wanted a piece of the team, which would have increased the chances of the NFL putting the kibosh on the move.

Did Adelson manage to delay or hinder the Convention Center upgrade / expansion at all?
And now that ship has sailed, guess they have to play out the charade?

Apparently, Goldman Sachs is reconsidering their commitment. Not looking very good for Mark Davis, the other owners vote was supposed to happen in March.

IIRC, the Raiders definitely weren't going to move to Vegas next year anyways, it was going to be by 2020. There is still plenty of time to get the deal done. I hate to see teams leave cities, but from a selfish point of view, I love the NFL and it would be awesome to have that as another form of entertainment in Vegas.

Yep, next season was never an option.

The league has owners meetings scheduled for March and May. The Raiders were pushing hard to get the vote done in the earlier one to avoid further delays to the stadium planning/construction.

That also affects the Rebels because they were supposed to be co-tenants in the new stadium. If the Raiders relocation falls through, UNLV has to decide if they want to modernize/upgrade Sam Boyd stadium or build a new stadium on their own.

I thought I heard talk that they did want to move now. Their lease in Oakland was year by year. They said they were going to play in the silver bowl(?) place until the new stadium was done.

The new league year starts in early March, I highly doubt the NFL would move a team after that.

Davis has already confirmed the Raiders will play at least two more seasons at the Coliseum. As everything, that might change, but seeing them play in LV before the 2019 seasons seems highly unlikely.

FWIW, the stadium that was called Silver Bowl in the late 70s has since been renamed to Sam Boyd Silver Bowl and now is just Sam Boyd Stadium. That's were the Rebels play. That stadium is 45 years old and seats max 40k, not really an upgrade to the Coliseum.

They've wanted to move just about every year since 2000.

Man, I went to every Grateful Dead concert at Sam Boyd Silver Bowl 91-95. Santana, Steve Miller, Sting, Traffic and Dave Matthews Band openers. Tripping hard on the strip. Not sleeping for days. Vegas was the only town that could accommodate 20-30k Deadheads and not even blink. Best Shakedown St (think black market farmers market). Much fun was had by all.

Think we could recapture the glory at the MGM Grand Garden Arena for Dead & Company in May? <sigh>

That was fast. Goldman apparently is out without Adelson being involved.

So it sometimes has sewage all over the floors because the plumbing backs up like the coliseum?

I thought sewage in the dugouts was mainly an issue for the A's (and their visitors)?

I don't think they could generate more revenue in Sam Boyd Stadium than they do at the coliseum. The latter one at least seats 60k and has a decent number of club seats and suites. But it's obv. by far the worst stadium in the NFL, that's out of the question. I'd rather play in 27k seat StubHub Center.

RJ seems to have been given the green light to report on the stadium. Top, center article on potential pitfalls of lease being negotiated. Noticing these type of stories popping up regularly.
Perhaps Sheldon isn't so pleased.

ESPN reports that Bank of America committed to financing the stadium. Very surprised they want to go ahead and vote on relocation at the owners meeting in 3 weeks. That sounds awfully fast for a league where everything usually takes ages.

Looks like this is the spot they are proposing:

I thought it was the space off blue diamond?

I hate bank of america... but good for them for stepping up.

The Raiders will still need to replace the expertise that Adelson would have provided from the perspective of stadium construction and operation. And they’ll need to worry about Adelson working behind the scenes to keep the Raiders out — since he reportedly intends to try to lure another team in.
It would be interesting if we suddenly get two teams competing to move here.
