Reports stating he had over 10 guns, two tripods and a Camera set-up to monitor police.

Re: Active shooter in Mandalay Bay.

I just woke up to a hundred messages asking if I was okay....I'm fine, MSchu18, thanks for asking.

I live right down LVB, only a couple miles away. Absolutely insane.

Re: Active shooter in Mandalay Bay.

My friend's sister is staying in the other Mandalay tower and witnessed it from her hotel room. Unfortunately she froze when it started so she saw more than she needed to. She's barricaded in her room until they finish sweeping and lift the lockdown. Her husband was not on property at the time and is still locked out, they've been unable to see each other.

Re: Active shooter in Mandalay Bay.

How does a man transport so many weapons and ammo without anyone wondering what's up?

Alot of second guessing goes on in these situations. Due to his age, it probably didn't sound off any alarm bells with people, still a great deal of heavy equipment being moved.

Re: Active shooter in Mandalay Bay.

It's not hard... open carry state, duffle bags and hard cases are very common. Specially so at convention properties like mandalay.

Besides... no bags are check at hotels.

I wonder if this might be Bundy related?

Re: Active shooter in Mandalay Bay.

I mean, I don't know exactly how big this gun was, but if you've ever seen how much luggage goes through a hotel lobby on a daily basis, I don't think it would be hard to conceal. I'm actually surprised this hasn't happened sooner given how easy it would be to do. I literally just told my parents a couple weeks ago that LV was ripe for something like this. Anyone could bring a gun or bomb making supplies in a duffel bag up to a room and carry out whatever plan they had. I'm really curious to see how the resorts will respond to this.

Golfbag (with hood) full of guns and a suitcase full of ammo. Would look perfectly normal.

I assume guns are not allowed in most casinos, for obvious reasons...now, I can see the major casinos and hotels using gun checks or baggage X-Ray machines.

I seem to recall people whining about large backpacks being either searched or banned at the WSOP.

You do a pile of federal paperwork, submit your fingerprints, pay the tax and wait. And it's the same process over and over for every single NFA related item you buy.

Again, not politicizing this. Just stating facts. This guy either stole them or he'd passed the FBI anal cavity search. Or obviously he could have bought them illegally from some underground/illegal operation or even less likely he could have converted a semi-auto to full auto but that's not at all common, nor is it something I'd expect some random guy like this to be able to pull off unless he was a real "gun guy" per se.

It's definitely going to be interesting to hopefully find out what weapons he used, where he got them and what in the heck this crazed guy's motive was. This seems like it was a well orchestrated attack.
Agreed. Will be interesting to see if they can track them. Sadly, this won't change anything with how gun crazy this country is. These things have and will continue to happen.

Want to guess what Congress is about to vote on? Legalizing gun suppressors. Seriously think about how stupid that is. This tragedy may put that on hold, but I promise you republicans will pass it.

I also thought the same will occur on a full time basis or at the minimum, during major events, for the Strip casinos.

Re: Active shooter in Mandalay Bay.

25 years in LV, just left last spring. Apt would have looked straight down Trop at the shooter. Seeing the videos, total flashback to the Vietnam doc.

How long was it from 1st shot to last? According to WaPo, something like 5 minutes? And blew the door with explosives? They must have that prepared to go. Police and security responded amazingly fast. Just incredible.

Impossible to stop a lone wolf, but that reaction time is pretty re-assuring. LV terrorism planning probably paid off big and saved many, many lives.

I think metal detectors are pretty standard at events centers, but maybe they start on hotel elevators?

Re: Active shooter in Mandalay Bay.

The LV thing always freaked me out was the airport being right there. Amazed a plane hasn't been shot at or taken down by an attack. I know there was a problem with people 'painting' planes laser pointers.

Yes that's possible, maybe even probable. They reported he had over 10 heavy weapons, and a massive amount of ammo. The ammo in particular would be heavy would it not? This wasn't just one trip to his apartment, this was multiple trips.

I know he might not set off alarm bells, but this isn't some guy going off the rails in a moment of weakness. This was planned and deliberate. His motive outside of mass harm to innocent people? We will have to wait and try and understand.

As always, the exact opposite is going to happen. Stocks of companies like AOBC or RGR are up ~4% because people start buying more guns after events like this.

Probably just some old man who finally realized how miserable and insignificant he was. Maybe it was his intention to suicide by cop, but he wanted to be noticed and make some kind of impact before he kicked off.

Re: Active shooter in Mandalay Bay.

CNN is saying the shooter played "$100 per hand" poker, per his brother. I'd assume that means video poker, at least I hope it does.

Or it means Blackjack and they just made a mistake.

Or 3 card poker. Or Ultimate Texas Hold'em or Texas Hold'em Bonus.

I think his brother said video poker during his interview with the local NBC affiliate.

Re: Active shooter in Mandalay Bay.

His girlfriend claimed him to be a professional gambler that would take long trips out town. His neighbors said he has weird as ****. He previously lived in Mesquite, TX and holds a pilot's license. He owned at least one plane worth several hundred thousand back in Texas.
