MGM's incentive is far greater than that of Ellen's show. In fact, I'm not seeing how Ellen's show really has an incentive to keep it exclusive. It's not like those episodes are replayed. The incentive for Ellen's show would just be to get the first interview..ie an interview with Ellen and then no more interviews for the next 5 days.
It makes far more sense that MGM setup the interview with Ellen, with the understanding that she would only throw softball questions at him (which I believe is the general style of her interviews anyways). MGM is about to be entangled in very expensive lawsuits and it's important that they convey a very consistent story with no slip-ups.
