They can, but since they don't even think it's worth putting up a sign, it's unlikely.

They don't put up a sign because they don't want to freak guests out like the casino is an unsafe place. It's kind of like if you go to a high end bar there are not signs saying "No Jerseys,no gang colors" or if you go to a high end restaurant and there are no signs saying "No Shirt, no shoes, no service."

...

Have you been in a Vegas hotel?

IF they do any kind of screening, and that's a big IF, it lasts a year at most.
As a former GC for a small casino on the Strip a long time ago, I can tell you that a casino can issue a trespass warning, i.e a ban, for conduct that is not illegal.

It is reasonable to think every casino here will soon have "no weapons" signage posted at the entrance. Such signage trumps a right to carry, openly or even with a ccw permit.

Access to rooms is easily restricted. Passing through a metal detector will be an inconvenience.

Steve Wynn is scheduled to appear on Fox News later this week to explain how security at the Wynn will work. (Fwiw, this past week Wynn security, on occasion, used wands to screen folks entering from the parking lot.)

Times and policies change.

The rules of conduct on an airplane for example reportedly have changed in the last 16 years.

No ****, anything can change. Until, or if, it does, I doubt you'll see any bans for legal concealed weapons.

Things already changed, last Sunday night, quite dramatically.

A few weeks ago at Aria a dealer mentioned someone getting banned after showing off a gun. And the dealer agreed with the ban, saying you can't let someone have a gun in there because someone might get shot. Personally I thought that was really unlikely, but I've seen similar reasoning from people in other situations.

They don't put up a sign because it's common sense.

A casino, where a bunch of idiots dump money at -EV games, is exactly the place where I would expect everyone walking around to be paragons of common sense.

People dump money in a lot of ways outside of casinos too. That isn't something that only happens in Vegas casinos. And a lot of people have other reasons to be in those places; there are other things you can do in those places besides gamble.

Read an interview today with Wynn where he explained a lot of this. He clearly stated guns are prohibited on WynnCore property and you'll be ejected if discovered with one.

Also had something interesting to say about the way that their "Do Not Disturb" signs work in your room. He said if housekeeping notes that it is out for more than 12 hours, they will "investigate". It wasnt clear what that meant. I assume that means during daylight hours - but it wasnt clear. So there would never be a situation where a DND was out for three days and no one looked in the room. Wasnt clear what "investigate" meant though, do they rifle your bags/closet while they're in there?

People are idiots. Nothing good can come of assuming that people have common sense. The purpose of government is to protect people like me from idiots so I don't feel inspired go Paddock on their asses. I want a society with explicit rules.

FWIW Nevada law does not recognize such signs. There is nothing illegal about carrying a gun in a Nevada casino or hotel, open or concealed. This is true even if there is a sign on the door saying otherwise, even if security tells you to disarm. It is not a crime by itself.

You can get yourself banned from a casino if you're belligerent about it, but you have not committed any crime. I have a feeling that this will be discussed when the Legislature meets again.

One can also have a gun in their possession in a bar while drinking as long as they don't register at 0.10 BAC or higher.

You can get banned for carrying a weapon. It has nothing to do with whether or not it's illegal. It's just like Wal-Mart can ban you from their store for video recording even though it's completely legal to video record and you are well within your constitutional rights to do so. They are well in their rights to ban you from their property.

FWIW, Steve Wynn just addressed this yesterday saying that guests are not allowed to have guns on their property and they eject people that have them.

They'll send security to do a welfare check, which happened to me when I had the DND sign out for two straight days at Red Rock. Mostly they just want to make sure you didn't hang yourself in the room or you're cleaning up after killing a hooker.

You are correct, I did overstate my point in my eagerness to make the "trump" joke, the signage in and of itself does not overcome aright to carry, however ....

If you are asked by the property owner or security either to disarm or to leave and you do not do as asked, it doesn't matter how polite or belligerent you are, you will be violating the trespass law.

You know, I almost replied to this yesterday saying did Steve just hint that the attacker had access to employee / freight elevators? Then this just came out.

Two days is a ridiculously short time, not to mention 12 hours.

How many people sleep for 12 hours straight when in Vegas? Or, if you're sharing a room with friends, how often is it the case that people combined are sleeping for 12 hours straight?

I'm guessing - or more accurately hoping - the casino couples it with some other measure. Like if the computer says a room door hasn't been opened with a key for 48 hours and the DND sign is up, it's reasonable to send someone in.

Yeah, I usually throw my DND sign up on the door when I leave the first time after dropping my bags off and don't take it off until I leave 3 days later.

I don't need new towels or bed sheets after 2 nights there.

I've had housekeeping call and leave a message saying they didn't clean my room for the day and to call by X time to have them clean it, but never had anyone enter my room.

Yeah, pretty much this. Look at all the free press they got by wanding people at the doors for a few days before quietly rolling that back.
