Just to go ahead and clear this up before anyone makes any mistakes about the gun laws....
Fully automatic weapons are illegal and have been since the National Firearms Act of 1934. A fully automatic weapon fires a burst or a constant stream of bullets when the firearm's trigger is pulled and held. The only civilians allowed to own full autos are Class 3 dealers and civilians who go through a year (or more) long FBI background check that is the REAL deal. It is also VERY expensive to purchase one of these weapons. Think of the military M-16, this is a full auto capable weapon.
A semi-automatic is what most common firearms made today are. Each pull of the trigger fires one shot. As fast as you can pull the trigger the firearm will fire a round. However, short of a handful of world class shooters, you can't pull the trigger repeatedly near as fast as you think you can. So 99.9% of the time when people say "he had an automatic" they either mean and semi-auto or they are confused. Think AR-15....it looks identical to the M-16 but it is a semi-auto.
Again, the police will confirm but this sounded like automatic fire to me. If so, that's bizarre. This stuff just isn't out there in the hands of civilians unless they have the permit and that's rare. I'm unaware of any cases of permit holders using full autos in a crime like this. They just aren't those kind of people.
This is going to be interesting as we learn more. I hope I'm wrong and these weren't full autos. Praying for the injured and the police.
It sounded like fully autos, but are you trying to politard that semi-autos shouldn't be banned as well? Fully autos are unnecessary for the public, so are semi-autos.
Brutal that multiple people said there heard 100+ shots fired.
