Hey guys I hope each and every one of you is doing well. This post might seem like more of a rant than anything so I apologize ahead of time. A lot of excitement for me right now. lol.

So I currently live in SOFL and my entire family lives in Vegas as they are active in the music production industry. I am pretty much the last one left who is still in South Florida and I decided its time to move.

I play mainly live poker and while I crush 1/2 NLHE I can play and hold my own at 2/5 but my profit is usually very similar to my 1/2 with bigger risk.

Im not the best player in the world because I am bankrolled from my career so I can afford to take more risk.

I would love to meet some groups to improve gameplay, and just some cool people in general.

Im 29, I have a long term girlfriend I live with, I skateboard, I play cards, I sell insurance, Love music and am very pro 4/20

I plan on going part time with my job and my plan is to put more focus on becoming a better poker player and create an income from poker large enough to where I can afford to be part time.

Poker is a passion of mine. It doesnt matter what game im playing, Whether its 1/2, whether its a 10 dollar home game, whether its 5/10. I get the butterflies in my stomach every time like its my first time. Its a love affair.

Whats the best way to break into the Vegas poker scene? What are the do's and dont's? and is there card rooms to avoid? Anything I should look out for?

Florida is def very soft games and I hear in Vegas that the players take the hourly win rate very very seriously where in Florida people throw money around like its monopoly money So while I might crush the games here, the same style could be very ineffective in a place like Vegas.

Also how is tourney poker in Vegas?

Chances of making it at Poker not nearly as hard as making it in acting imo.

Smart move keeping a job to cover life expenses.
What's the best way to break into the Vegas poker scene? Win the next Vegas 10k buy-in tourney to let Vegas know you've made it into town bro!

I think there are more working actors in Hollywood than winning poker players in Las Vegas.

At least OP has family here and not visions of poker grandeur like so many others that have posted in LVL over the years.

No tunnels..

I was under the impression White Knight was more towards the aid of women, like a gender thing, not just anyone. Oh well. Whats post count have to do with it? I have been on and off these message boards since probably 2004. I forgot the login from my last account so I made a new one, as I dont always post. Last one I remember it was called Romosexual I believe. I know I know, i'm one of those, a cowboys fan...hah.

Most people on these forums have poor reading comprehension. He clearly said he is keeping his Job, but his goal looks like he wants to split his work time between 2 jobs. Poker and his current employment. He is going to play regardless whether he is in florida, vegas, LA, russia, south pole, or Carnival Cruise ship. Second he is moving to vegas because he has family here, and also stated he has a GF, so I see nothing wrong with surrounding yourself with family and people you love. And if he doesn't end up liking it, guess what? Shocker incoming...he can move back to Florida if he wants. Its not a one way ticket to vegas. He is seems excited to move to a new city, which ive also done and it can be exciting, and just asked for some tips, and people come on with a bunch of bitter comments. Thats all.

"breaking in" to the poker scene in Vegas is as simple as plopping your ass down at a table, anywhere, then rinse/repeat at other casinos. You'll figure out quickly enough which rooms you're most comfortable in, but it's something only you'll be able to answer. There are no barriers to entry.

Maybe, but if that were true why would he create an account and post about it if it were only a side hobby?

Throw a few catch-phrases and blanket statements together to completely derail someone's opinion is pretty common-place here; and in the world for that matter. Instead of providing incentives, which we should be doing, we attempt to dissuade. The bolded word above describes exactly why.

I emphasize this because I, too, have lurked for quite awhile and only decided to jump in some convos (regardless of my measly post count and join date) to encourage people in the "white-knight" fashion that this is a realistic pursuit. I started over a year ago (part-time at first then transitioning to full-time) grinding online and I've made more in 1/2 a year (starting this year) than many of my peers, with degrees, will make in a year. I spent a month in Vegas not long ago and if you can beat $1 BI mtts online you can beat up to $600 mtts live. The play is that awful. It's just awfully boring at the same time.

I think the OP will make the right choice and see the potential benefits/pitfalls of each decision. glgl

Ive been on and off the forums for a while, this is a new account because I got locked out of my old account but I want to improve my game to improve how much I am winning. Its a passion of mine to play poker however im 8 years into a stable career that I would be foolish to throw away and dont plan on doing it.

You see some of these players and they are really really good and I want to be one of those players for the pure sport of being able to play and comprehend the game at a high level.

I suggest playing at just about every poker room and playing in the rooms more than just one time. That will give you an idea about which rooms you like. Even then be open to going back to some others because things do change.

Pay attention to the rake.

Get a player's card to accumulate the cash-back bonuses (usually $1/hour or more in most rooms).

Be friendly but avoid being too chummy. That way you can reduce the chances of getting hit-up for a loan or feeling like you don't want to bust a "friend".

Be aware of what promotions are going on in the room you playing in. That way, as an example, you avoid throwing away your 4 kings when everyone folds to you on the river and only later do you realize that there was a $50 high-hand bonus but you needed to show the hand to collect.

Don't let so-called "free-roll" tournaments dictate where you play. Of course, take those things into account, but don't let that become the only factor in your decision of where to play.

Thanks. This is more along the lines of what I was curious about. Im gonna stay away from freerolls I think. Every one ive ever entered wasnt free at all considering the whole tourney does the add ons and rebuys.

Ill def keep an eye on the rake and promos also. Good advice
