Wrong. This is where the maniacs and life degens come lurking out. Games are wayyy more profitable and fun during this time. OP should consider playing this time if he has no other obligations.

I have no other obligations. However, I struggle sleeping during the day. What are the peak hours in your opinion? And what’s your guess at the difference in profitability? 1.2x? 1.7x? 2x?

Also... are you really a bodybuilder?

GL OP, I'm subbed, sounds like it should be a blast for you.

I'm also interested in the answer to this question.

Furthermore, one thing you should think about is how much you'll alter your schedule for great games. Even though you plan to play from 1-11 PM, there will be many times when 11:00 rolls around and you have position on a whale 300 BBs deep. I think it's really bad news for your winrate if you go to bed in this situation. A lot of times in a cash game, I'll think to myself "I am NOT leaving this table until this other guy does".

The converse is true too! If you're planning to play until 11, but at 9:30 the game sucks, it will probably help your winrate if you just call it a night and spend those 90 minutes playing some other time, when the game is at least decent.

Not to pry, but OP are you older, like 50+? I believe as we age it becomes more and more difficult to deal with changes to our sleep pattern.

I do agree with others tha there can be, on some nights, incredibly spewy players late night that increase EV and variance!. However, I find that anything that leads to me playing tired turns me into a nice loose-passive that just bleeds chips. The quality of one’s own play has to be considered too.

Since its Vegas I would say close to a 2x difference. The games are just really short stacked and nitty before you reach the night time. Something like 8pm to 4am would be an ideal schedule. Like someone else mentioned, you can always leave a little early on off nights and stay later in a game that is great, or player longer hours on weekends.

Do you know many people who work nightshifts and like it? I don't know a single person who doesn't want to switch to the dayshift.

GL OP, sounds like a solid plan. I assume you plan on doing some outdoor exercise like jogging or cycling on the days you don't go to the gym? If you can find a nice (indoor) pool, adding a couple hours of swimming a week is a nice change of pace in my opinion.
overall id agree but also the best job i ever had was working til 1:30x3,3:30x1,5:30x1 am each week. i was pretty stupid and probably blew what could have been a solid career thinking money was that easy to make everywhere.

ok. thanks. i will consider it. im not sure ill be able to make it work with sleeping. also, i wouldn't feel comfortable walking back at 4am as at 11pm, so would have to consider the cost of an uber into the equation. will give it some thought.

One of the main considerations for making money is table selection. The great thing about poker is we get to choose who we play against. We don't want to play against people that are better than us, nitty, or -ev.

If the table selection between 8pm and 4am is optimal, then we may have to adjust, people do it all the time for their work shifts so there is no reason to not do it for poker, if we are willing.

I can sleep most anywhere and at anytime. I take multiple naps during the day so I can be awake and alert for the late night/early morning games. Listen to your body, eat when you're hungry, sleep when you are tired.

Do or do not, there is no try. Plenty of time for sleep when we are dead.

It sounds like your are prepared to make the best decision that works for you, including what is best for your health. Even if it means passing on those games full of players that are rich, drunk, that don't even know how to spell poker, and there's only one good player in the game (that's you).

Best of luck to you, it should be a lot of fun.

Really looking forward to watching this thread develop. Sounds like you have a great plan OP. I do think that you should be reconsidering your playing hours to maximize EV. Either way, wish you success and looking forward to following along!

Agree, altho I'd say 7p - 3, especially Thurs, Fri, Sat... You will get seated more quickly and cover 7p - 10, which can be very loose. After 3a, you are mopping up too much and games break down

Also, consider staying somewhere in a safer area, accessible by bus if you are not bringing a car. I just think the furnished places just off the Strip East or West are a - EV safety-wise. Consider a furnished place way south on the Strip, near a bus stop (if they run 24/7.)

it sounds like your life is going to revolve around poker. being that's the case you should get on a poker schedule.
you can still get your 8 hours of sleep.

I agree with the person who says something like 8pm to 4 am would be ideal. your win rate will be much higher.
poker at 2 pm on a tues? shoot me please.

be a little flexible. as that poster also pointed out sometimes the game sucks a few hours early so leave. sometimes it's great and you should never leave.

i know lots of people who worked night shifts and love it, some of them poker dealers.
i also know some people who hated it so they moved or want to move to day shift.

I totally understand wanting to balance work and life. However, you may want to make exceptions over the weekend. I strongly recommend playing until 2-3 in the morning on Fridays and Saturdays. There are just so many people out on these weekend nights getting drunk and playing poker. Why not avail yourself of this money?

I would much rather play a juicy game late on a Friday or Saturday that try and find a game at 3 or 4 in the afternoon on a weekday.

Good Luck!

EDIT:

If it was me doing this my schedule would be something like this:

Thursday: 7PM - 2 AM
Friday: 7PM - 2 AM
Saturday: 7PM - 2 AM

These hours would be my "must play" hours. Total is 21 hours so you have 1/2 a normal work week right here. Any other hours I play would be above and beyond this. It is obvious but.... we are after "winrate" not about hours played.

Do you play this many hours in New England? Did you play poker when you were in Florida? What does your hourly look like now in comparison to your goal in Vegas?

you can't include your passive income (as we have no idea what that is) when someone asks what your monthly nut is

A monthly nut is just your monthly expenses. Many of the monthly expenses are fixed and if you keep track of your expenses, you should know what your monthly nut is.

If I say that my monthly nut is 2000-2500 and that I have residual monthly passive income of 1000/mo... how is that more useful info to you than saying “my
Monthly nut is 1000-1500”?

Btw, hi fozzy!
