Most TRs about degen behaviour in Vegas are fun. But this one is different somehow. There is something dark about this story, and I’m happy to add my voice to those who have encouraged the OP to quit Vegas and effect an urgent and immediate change of life course. OP comes across as an unhappy and deluded individual in serious need of counselling. He’s also an appalling cash game player, although it does appear that he may be able to beat the micro-tourneys online.

OP, plz be aware that the people who have posted above that you need to quit this path are not trolling, they are recognising from your own posts that you are behaving in a self-destructive way and trying to persuade you to find a better direction. For somebody in your present state of mind, Las Vegas is the last place in the world you should be right now.

Hurl as many insults as you like in my direction, I stand by my appraisal. This doesn’t feel like a fun-filled Vegas bender, it reads like the sad demise of another desperado. I’m not going to follow this thread any more - I don’t want to be a witness to your collapse, far less an accomplice. This was pretty strong and crossed some lines. We should not condone violence. But it's the opposite of racist. It's a white guy ranting against racists.
He made a mistake of trying to use black people as some sort of weird equalizer. I knew that that was his intent but didn't see it my place to comment on his bluff.
Yeah, as much as I sympathize with op, I agree that this trip report is a bit of a mess. We follow this sub forum because we like poker and gambling and the Las Vegas lifestyle. The entertainment aspects of it. If op wanted to chronicle his struggles, I think a blog would have been more appropriate.
But again, I don't see it as being racist by pointing out the truth that a lot of old white guys are bigots.

Um OP in a weird way I enjoy this but I don’t think this right for you. I don’t enjoy for the train wreck but the idea of a guy riding the bus living off Spring Mountain, exploring off strip ethnic food and local dives. You however seem to get no joy from this. You’re playing drunk -EV games and don’t even seem to be having fun doing so. What’s the goal of this trip?

Also you’ve already kind of apologized and realized your statement on the midwesterners was wrong. That being said guys, especially guys from the south probably shouldn’t be making generalizations about people from certain geographic areas being racist.

To be fair Nit he is from Atlanta which takes a back seat to no city in America as far as race/sexuality goes - have you ever visited? There is a reason why middle class and rich black Americans stay in, and flock to Atlanta. Georgia has more black population than California, it voted Biden and has two Democratic Senators - we arent Nebraska or South Dakota lol.

Most degen stories are along the lines of someone blowing through way more money than they should have in Vegas and getting blackout drunk. But at the end of the day they go home to their jobs and the net impact on their life is having a crazy story to tell. I enjoy Leon's stories because even when he rage tilts and blows through 10-20K more than he planned to you know he is going to be ok. This story is different because it is not clear what a win looks like for OP. I hope he has some sort of plan for income and a place to live after this trip is over. Otherwise it doesn't really matter if he wins 2K or loses 2k on this trip.

On the plus side OP is a good writer and seemingly intelligent. Seems like he should be able to get and hold onto a job that will pay for reasonable standard of living or maybe he has some other source of income which would be good to know for purposes of enjoying the story.

not updating nor reading any comment. I implore Jeff Sluzinski to take a look at the people living in the Sparrow and Wolf alley way just west of the restaurant. I hung out with them for about an hour and i felt an actual victory getting this guy to look away from a wall that he'd been looking at for who knows how long. Normally i am not down with giving out cash first off because i'm broke myself. But I did give $20 to each of them. That isnt the ultiimate answer. I think this guy i hung out with and sat on the curb with for a bit felt pretty good after telling me why he ended up in jail.

The only reason I mention sluzinski here is because i know he actually cares. He knows its not about the money its about actually helping people to improve their lives whether that be talking to someone making them feel like a human being again or actually helping them get off the street.

Obviously i"m not coming back here again. I juvt wamted to bring this to peoples attention. PLUR Peace Love Unity Respect.

just started reading through these comments i love this guy. its ok brah i was never gonna collapse although at the time i thought i might whatever that means. i'll post a dumb recap after i read through all this. you are probably a dude i'd hang with not sure if that is looked upon as a good or bad thing lol. i try to keep it real whatever that means.

i lived in the midwest for 18 years before Atlanta. I went to a high school of 1500 kids between two cities that were full of blacks yet not one black person was in my high school. now call me stupid but i think i know what was going on. its pretty obvious. but thankfully things are different now. although you are kidding yourself if straight up racism isnt prevelent in the midwest. I know what "midwest values" is all about. If anyone else is honest about the midwest and i know because of their "brand" they wont be they know what the midwest is full of.

lol i just erased 1 hour of typing. wow i'm dumb.

put it all together go to flowing tide pub 6 on decatur. the architecture of the place is amazing you have a beautiful view of the strip there are young beautiful bartenders and i think i hit 4 of a kind 4 times before they shut the vp machines down. thats a synopsis.

so anyway the next week i head over to crown and anchor. they have a trivia night i dont give a **** about because i suck at trivia.

one of my fellow drunks hit a royal in there like a week before. so of course i hit a royal in there my 2nd in a week. not only that i change up machines and hit 4 aces with a low kicker for another grand. now i know that is difficult to believe but it actually happened. it was sick as f*** especially knowing i hit a royal right down the street the previous week. Love the people in there the bartenders are awesome and the peeps that hang out there are ok man you know i accept everyone.

so anyway i go back in there again rack up another $1k score a few weeks later. by this point i mean lets be honest here. when i lived in vegas before and lost a bunch playing vp i THOUGHT i knew how to play perfect but i was fooling myself. and actually i was nowhere near perfect when i came to vegas this time. in fact i was playing lol 80% correct. UNtil i wised up and figured that out then figured out how to play 95% correct. I'll never be able to play 100% correct but 95% is great when you are ripped.

so bottom line while i started out down i think $2600 to start my trip yes i gave up on poker live. i think that was a good move because a. i'm not good at poker (my best scores ever were a chop at a wynn daily for 3k and some orleans final tables playing various games ie i suck) and b. i forgot what b was.

so to sum up my trip i came back with a vengence playing vp allen whats his name would be proud. On the other hand i also dropped I'm guessing $3k in this bar called Segos on spring mountain. so dont go there to play vp.


overall for my entire trip i ended up down $550. all things considered i'll take it considering how bad i started with live poker. I dont look at is as what ifs and yes i hung out with some homeless people my last day there i still think about them this one dude in particular seemed really normal probably bad circumstance prob like me in 6 months lol except really tan.

i mean what did i learn i'm not sure. i already knew i dont like being around people in general so playing live poker for someone like me was really dumb. did i get lucky on vp? absolutely. but i look at it as payback for when i lived here. oh i forgot to mention this story i was almost blacked out in el cortez i put in my usual 200 in the vp machine. i start talking to this dude for i dunno an hour at least. i was like man i forgot i put money in here let me do my $2.50 spin. of course it comes up quads first spin. i turn to my drunken friend and laugh about it and talk a bit. he eventually leaves i get up blacked out drunk head over to the blackjack table where i proceed to lose you know whatever like $700. of course i left my card in the machine as well as the i think $350 or thereabouts because i was too blacked out to take remember to take the money. So that is a funny story.

Anyway. The end.

I forgot to mention my original royal at vp while at griffs pool hall. I think it was the jrb good vibes because he was there at the time. ordering tequila. jrb was holding court at the table but that aint none of my business nor am i a fanboy. maybe it was coincidence but that did actually start my stupid vp run which got me back to almost break even.
