Feeling I owe a little something back for all the pleasure I have gotten out of other trip reports on here I decided to write up the story of my own trip to WSOP.

About me, 38, father of three, master licensed plumber and part owner in a bath remodel company. I started playing poker in the last year before black Friday. Always been a tourney guy, I just love the big prizepools and the chance of coming out on top of a big field.

2 years ago I binked a 3rd in the ignition 100k for 13k and decided to take a few grand to Vegas to take my shot with the big boys. Ended up losing all 3 tourneys I played but had a good time and felt that I could hang, even if I wasnt a favorite.

This year I was talking with my gf about going and she was in. Then as it got closet she decided to stay home and I shortened the trip to 4 days with plans to grind as many tourneys as I could fit in.

So with noone to impress I downgraded my room to the gold coast and booked my plane tickets. I would arrive at 11pm Friday and leave at midnight Tuesday. And that Friday is where we will pick next..

Friday was the end of a long week. I was determined to finish my workload so I could enjoy 4 stress free days. I thought I could be done by 1, ended up working til 4 and heading home to finish packing and give the kids an hour of attention. Kissed the gf goodbye and I was off to the shop to meet my business partner for a ride to the airport.

In the security line, I got my first bad beat of the weekend. I forgot my belt and ended up getting a patdown of my genitals. Security dude was rubbing my nuts up and down and then called over his supervisor to do the same. He was less shy, got right in there and squeezed, confirmed that my sack was not the explosives the first guy suspected and let me through.

The flight was uneventful, landed and grabbed a taxi as I couldnt get my Lyft payment to work. 85 mph down the freeway cost me $35 and I vowed not to taxi again.

My plan had been to jump in yhe 10pm daily deepstack at the Rio but at 11pm (1am my time) I had been up for about 20 hours and was exhausted. I decided to find the dispensary instead and get that out of the way.

The dispensary was neat and uneventful. Got a gram of each of two sativas and was back in my room smoking in 30 minutes. Woke me up a bit and decided to go find one of those Leon machines. Spent an hour blowing $100 and headed up to the room to rest up for tomorrow, the $200 40k in a day tourney at Planet Hollywood.

Gl man! If you can sort it out throw in some photos(shoe pic, bankroll, foods) that allow us to enjoy the ride!

Thanks for the encouragement guys! I should have started with a few warnings though. First, I didnt take as many pics as I should have. I was planning on it but I am not good at it. I will post what I have though. Second, I am going to write this in pieces as I find time so it may take a few days. Third, my notes were all thrown away by gold coast cleaning people so some hands and details may be fuzzy. But it was a great trip and if noone else gets anything from it, I want to be able to read it before future trips.

Well it's been a year and this procrastinator is on his way back to Las Vegas. Following the thousands that stormed to the big 500 to chase my personal dream, an WSOP Omaha bracelet.

It's been a long and interesting year, some good, some bad. I want to start my new trip report here to remind myself of where I was a year ago. I will fill in a few details about last year and feel free to ask any questions about that trip. I don't remember it as well as then but definitely remember the important stuff.

More importantly, I want to use this space to document this trip as it happens. I have a good feeling this weekend and want to be able to share it with anyone that may find it interesting.

I walked into Planet Hollywood for the $200 40k in a day feeling great. I then proceeded to walk around lost for a half hour looking for the tournament area, slightly diminishing my sense of confidence.

Eventually I found my way in and had only missed a few hands. My table was great, lots of laughter and lots of drinking. It wasn't even noon. It was about noon when I got my AK in against Jack's and lost to an aggressive opponent. No sweat, this is too soft not to re-enter.

New table is pretty much the same. Lots of recs having fun. The tourney is unnotable in that I don't remember any big hands. Mostly just raise small a lot and get out of the way when reraised. I ran decent, a bit up and down and eventually get into the money as a shorty. I have 7 or 8 BB and look at K10 from middle position. About 2 hands since the bubble. Shove. Everyone folds. Next hand, A10 with about 10BB. Shove, everyone folds. Next hand 88 with 13 BB utg+1, shove and everyone groans. One guy asks if I have a flight to catch. I laugh and say no, first day here. BB wakes up with AQ and spikes an Ace on the turn. GG. Min cash for about 15$ more then my two entries. Easy game.

Back to the RIO to dump two bullets at the 10pm $150 deepstack. Made it deepish but cards didn't run well. I remember my last hand of my second entry I got it in against a aggro loud fish as a favorite and lost.

I then jumped into a $185 single table satellite. My advice for these, don't enter without a plan. I had been playing big Field deepstack poker most of the day and starting so short, I ended up doing off a few chips and then shoving a weak Ace to get knocked out first at the table. Left feeling like I lit a couple hundred bills on fire.

Why the **** does tapa talk delete posts so easily? Shouldn't that **** auto save? ****. Anyway, short version is I woke up next early and played the 9am satellite at the RIO.

Made it to the bubble and got in the money. But one more person had to be eliminated and would receive $310, everyone else would get the $1500. As one of the shorter stacks I shoved AK and got called by the BB with AA. Board ran clean for him, and everyone celebrated at my loss of $1200.

Tilted, I collected my cash and decided to walk out the back door of Rio and walk around the outside of building to get back to the gold coast. Pro tip- it's not a short walk. 40 minutes later I was drenched in sweat and thirsty. I showered, drank some water and decided to head to the Orleans for $150 O8 tourney.

I really wanted to play the PLO giant at 7pm but not enough to wait 7 hours. I figured I had just enough time to min cash and get back or make a deep run that would make me forget about it.

It never occurred to me that I could wait a half hour for a seat, get tilted by slow players and lose 2 entries in just a few hours. By 4pm I was on the shuttle back to Gold Coast.

I nearly jumped right into a daily deepstack when I had a brilliant plan. Something that I think I may have come up with myself. Something no one has ever intentionally done on a 4 day trip to Vegas.

I took a nap.

I was tilted by a frustrating day but was asleep by 5 with an alarm set for 6 to shower get to the tourney on time.

I woke up confused at 6:50. My first thought was to run as fast as I could. Rationality set in and I decided to shower and get ready just as I had planned. It was a deepstack event with registration for 4 hours.

I made it to my table around 8pm. I sat down and within an orbit I had decided there were 5 nits waiting for AAxx, and 2 overly aggro players battling each other to be the table captain. I raised a few spots and folded to 3 bets or bets after poor flops.

That's when I looked down at AA89 in utg+2. I was about starting stack of about 80 bbs, as were most at this point. I limped along with UTG hoping that one of two people behind that would attack. Another nit limped and the first aggro player limped along. The aggro in the BB wasn't letting 4 people see a flop so he potted to about 8 BBs. Perfect. Folded to me, I raise to about 24 BBs. Folds back to him and he hems and haws about it but eventually calls. Flop is something like a 6 T Q. Not great but when he checks I decide I have to go with it. I pot and he quickly puts me all in. I call and he tables a AQT4 and is leading with 2 pair. I need a 7, 6 or the last Ace. Turn is a 9 and the river is a 6 giving me a better two pair and my first double up.

Soon after the table broke and the next couple hours I chipped up small pots and got moved a few times as they broke tables.

So I guess I should have stated that starting stack was 25,000. After the early double I was at about 50k. I chipped up to about 100k over the next 2 hours without showing many hands at 4 different tables.

The only thing I really remember is a really stinky dreadlock white dude on my right. Like, this dude really stunk. Made me glad I had showered twice today. As I left my table I half wondered if the stink was now on me.

I was moved to the Brasilia room and the atmosphere was getting tenser. We we're past registration and getting closer to the money. 523 register and I think they paid 63. So we could guess there were 100 or 120 left and I was about average. My table was much like the first, 2 aggros and 5 or 6 people trying to stay out of their way. There a few stacks around 25k and a few like me at 100k. The 2 aggros were playing about 300k.

Currently standing in line to register for the $600 PLO deepstack. Lost 2 entries in the online event last night in under an hour. Hoping to keep getting it in with the nuts but start winning the pot.

About ten hands in a lady sits down late. Bets her first hand on every street, shows down 2 pair. 100/200 second level. Next hand she is in BB, I am the button. I raise 5,6,7,8 rainbow to 300. SB calls, she calls in BB. Flop K57. Checks to me, I bet 800. SB folds, BB calls. Turn 5 for the boat. She checks, I bet 1600. She calls. River A, (no flush) she checks, I bet 3500, she raises to 10,500. I cant put her on AA or KK because of preflop check in BB. I call and she shows AA for top boat.

That put me at 14k from 30k start. Lost another 5k in a blind battle with top two. Was down to 7k, back up to 16.5 k with a set of 5s from the BB.

2 hands after that I flopped a set of Queens and lost it all to a straight on Q89 flop. Was in line to reregister but it was taking so long I would have started with 20 BB and decided it wasn't a good value.

Later that night I won a $20 rebuy satellite for $1000 in lammers. Perfect because the plan was always to play today's PLO 1k. Registered and tossing money at my favorite Leo machine.
