My call would be first choice - Flamingo, Harrah's, or Bally's. Mid strip, good value and not a bad room or stay. I love Planet Hollywood's poker area. Lots of eye candy.
Second would definitely be Orleans (I like their poker room) or Gold Coast. Boyd Gaming gives better customer service over the strip properties and a better value. Shuttle is free and every 20 minutes or so. The Rio gives me a bad vibe.
Avoid downtown. Not much poker and the commute can be horrible at rush hour times. Not to mention the crack heads and meth addicts that will try and ruin your day.

the Fremont hotel has good cheap rooms and no resort fee. its right across the street from the golden nugget as well.
