Is it pointless to use something like Skype screenshare or teemviewer to confirm FTP transactions? Is there any risk involved with this?

I think its pointless, If they are shipping first, you'll get the emails from FTP first anyways. If they're shipping after you, then they weren't gonna ship anyways, and they already have your funds, so it does very little.

If they were to purchase points from the store for you, it might help if you could watch them do it, since most of the time, the confirmation emails are just forwarded, and easily faked. In this case, its only useful if they are sending first, since if they send second, they probably just won't do this, and take the monies.

I'm not sure if this was covered already or falls under the no commercial enterprises clause... was wondering if I could post a thread offering my design skills since a lot of people seem to have need for that and I've already done a lot. Maybe even a sub forum/sticky for all the stupid photoshop this/need a logo for that.

Also what should I do if I feel I've been stiffed. Say they take bids, then request a mock up, then tell you to change things, and you spend a few hours, then 2 weeks later they decide they don't want it... should've been paid upfront?

thanks!

I can tell you that you're going to have issues like this a lot. There are going to be deadbeats, people who suddenly lose interest and don't want your work after you've invested time and energy into them, others who can't get their end of their projects together. Sometimes projects are just cancelled. If you're talking about $25 Shop jobs it will be twice as bad. I recall a couple of these already, in one case the work in question was pretty ****ty and IIRC somewhat plagiarized as well.

True story:

I had a referral recently for a band looking for cover art for a CD. I'm talking to the guy, and he sounds legit. The work is doable and the money's right. I wind up talking to one of the other guys to get some photos... and I get out of him that not only do they not have any recordings, they have no drummer, no songs written, and one of them was going to go to court for like 10k in bounced checks. Of course I specified (tactfully) that my fee was to be up front, and that was the last I ever heard from them.

Moral of the story is that if you can't trust the person commissioning the project, or are unwilling to risk someone rejecting your work, then just ask for the money up front and be done with it.

true story gonso. thanks.
It's not necessarily silly chops either. Once I made a website for a few people on here, including forums, e commerce and all. I spent about 70 hours on it, was paid half up front but by the time it came around for the other half to be paid the group had different ideas for everything and had basically called it quits stiffing me for around 300 dollars. I realize sometimes business doesn't go as planned but I still should've been paid.

If you ever feel you get stiffed on something thru the marketplace contact the mods (pms generally) and we'll definitely give it a listen and followup with whatever actions we normally take against them.
it can be a bit murkier I guess on pay for skill type transactions than it is for goods or staking, but we'll always give it a look and do what we can do to help resolve it.

Why does everyone say backers would rather back someone in make up than someone not in make up? Sure they get all the money the backer wins instead of splitting it but it's their money to begin with so they really aren't making any money, right?

If someone is 1k in MU, than the next 1k they get, the backer gets that 1k. I know it was the backers to begin with, but it wasnt technically his when its "make up". Its still gotta be made back through playing games.

and no backer wants to back people in MU, its just part of backing.

couple deals I just found out about this week:

1. At least in CA, you do not have to be a member of Costco/Sam's Club/etc. to purchase alcohol: http://digg.com/odd_stuff/Membership...m_s_Club,_etc.. I called my local Costco and confirmed.

2. AAA has a free identity theft protection for members: http://www.aaa-calif.com/members/id_...x?bcd=CAWLGLIP

I don't know where to post this but here it goes:

I have a bunch of old MTG cards, from Revised all the way to Marquedian Masque. I don't know how rare the cards I have are, but are they worth sorting through and selling on here, or another marketplace for magic cards, or should I just bunch um up and sell them for pennies per card?

What would people say is the going rate $ wise for an FTP (full tilt point) .... and also if you sell them does it come out of your rakeback?

$3.3-3.5 per 1k ftps. And yes, it is deducted from your MGR.

(probably stupid) Question-

Is there anything I could be missing here?
I have a new member (1 post) from Slovenia that requested 8 decks of cards from me.
He transferred the money on Stars.
He also requested that I put a $1 bill in the box and he would transfer it back to me on Stars.
I presume he just wants an American $1 bill.
But it raises my suspicion, especially being a newbie from a country that has a poor reputation for transfers and mail (USPS will not insure packages there).

I realize I run the risk or the original transfer he sent on Stars could later be taken back by Stars if the money is somehow fraudelent.
I've accepted this risk to date, and have had no problems.

Any thoughts welcome. If they aren't helpful, at least make them funny!

I wouldn't be worried about the $1 bill. You're probably right that he just wants an American $1 bill. It is kind of weird, but why would that raise your suspicion? It's only $1. If it were $20, then I'd say he might be trying to milk some kind of fraud for all he could get.

The risk of Stars taking back the money is legit though.

I didn't know that USPS would not insure packages to Slovenia.

If you're uncomfortable sending mail there, just politely tell the new poster to go **** himself.

Marketplace question: Would it be ok for me to set up a WTB thread for a Greendot Moneypak? For example: I have them go to store buy me $200 GD moneypak(cost them $204.95) and I ship them cash on FTP or PStars(with a premium like say $225 total) for the code on the back. I load moneypak onto my Green Dot reloadable card, go get money at ATM and buy liquor, hookers, and blow, maybe not all in that order. Basically Im cashing out without waiting for FTP or Stars to send me a check. Is that kosher? If so, I need to be approved so I can start a thread in WTB

Are offers to trade items allowed? I have two tickets to the invitation only Super Bowl parties at both Bellagio and Harrah's. I'd like to trade my two Harrah's tickets for two extra Bellagio tickets. I'd also like to post it as an offer to buy two tickets.
