Marketplace Questions, Random Stuff - NOT FOR BUYING/SELLING Marketplace Questions, Random Stuff - NOT FOR BUYING/SELLING

Someone posted a question today in the permissions thread, which I thought was a silly place to do so until it occurred to me that there's nowhere else to do that in the Marketplace, especially if you're not approved to create new threads. So, here's the thread!

This thread is for questions related to the Marketplace, and perhaps a little banter. It is NOT for people to buy or sell items, and attempting to do so may result in an infraction or even a ban.

The Marketplace would be the place for that, but you don't usually (ever?) see people doing that like they do with FT points. I think the reason is that you can get better return for your Stars points through concierge, bonuses, etc than you would by buying merchandise for people.

thats about it, ppl do it on FTP way more on stars, cause anything good cost a lot of pts on Stars, and ppl who earn a lot of pts use concierge normally. better value.

I also read on here, from a stars rep that you're not allowed to sell the points there.

I have permission to start threads, but was unsure if it would be a good idea to make this post so I guess I will float the idea here. I just got a new cc that has 0% interest for six months. I can't use it to deposit at poker sites though. Would it be ok to offer my services as a concierge? Basically if someone wants to cash out of full tilt, they transfer me the cash and then I can purchase them any item they want online and have it sent to them?

Just thought I should let you know I haven't forgotten you, still kicking this around. Looks like an idea that posters are excited about, we just have to decide if we want to allow it. CC fraud could be a problem.

imo, it kind of blurs the lines btw p2p xfers and marketplace. In essence, youre saying "send me your poker site funds for (basically) cash-like credit card use. " Not nec saying i think it shouldnt be allowed. But how far off is this from something like, say, "send me your poker-site money for a BOA xfer or epass or WU", which would clearly belong in the xfer thread.

Yeah I have to agree. Also, as Bobo mentioned, it opens up the potential for fraud. An unsuspecting buyer could find himself on the hook for a fraudulently purchased item. The way that usually works is the scammer uses a stolen CC or whatever, orders the buyer's desired goods direct to the buyer, and basically vanishes once he has the money. Then the CC company and vendor get wise to the fraud, comes looking for the buyer... etc.

Now, if someone listed something they wanted to buy and you worked out this sort of thing with them privately, I guess that's up to them. However the fact that you're using your credit card shouldn't really factor in to the equation at all.

The whole idea is unnecessarily complicated, especially given our simple little operation here.

Firstly, I wouldn't be sending funds until the product was received. That said, would the purchase go through and would I receive the good if it were purchased via fraudulant funds? Essentially, would I be contacted by the company to send back the goods?

Almost never. Because the issuing bank essentially acts as a middle man once you have the merchandise they would almost never try to get it back. For basically the same reason they dont try to get it back when you default on your credit card payments.

If the amount of the purchase was big enough, however, you might get contacted by the police and have a whole mountain of trouble.

there are two potential fraud issues here:

1. A three-party fraud. Person A posts on 2p2 saying that hell buy person B something on his credit card for stars money. He buys person B a plasma TV or whatever, person B ships 1200 on stars. Unbeknownst to B, A has actually purchased the plasma with person C's credit card. Fast forward 3 weeks. Person C looks at his credit card statement, craps himself, then calls the CC company about the 1200 on his credit card that he doesnt recognize. CC comapny calls the merchant who charged the card and asks what was purchased and wehre it was shipped. CC company says to C, well that got shipped to Person B, at this address. Dont you know this person? No? Well, just fill out this affadavit of fraud and well remove the charge and get the police right on it.

2. A two-party fraud. Person A posts on 2p2 saying that hell buy person B something on his credit card for stars money. He buys person B a plasma TV or whatever, person B ships 1200 on stars. unbeknownst to B, A is a huge degen and desperate for money. Person A waits to get his money on stars, then calls his credit card company and says "oh, my. Someone charged $1200 to my credit card and I cant imagine what it was for"... CC comapny calls the merchant who charged the card and asks what was purchased and wehre it was shipped. CC company says to A, well that got shipped to Person B, at this address. Dont you know this person? No? Well, just fill out this affadavit of fraud and well remove the charge and get the police right on it.

So would there be demand in the Xfer thread for someone to deposit money online (out of US) then xfer it to others, after taking some vig %age?

Would this go in the xfer thread or have a new thread or be allowed at all?

It certainly goes on in the xfer thread. Normally, the vig goes the other way (people pay vig to get cash or equivalent for pokersite money), just becaus eof greater demand to move money that way.

How does buying FTP points work? Let's say buyer interested in buy 300k Points, the seller orders the item from FTP Store and have it ship to buyer's address. Does the buy pay the seller when the order is delivered or when the order is placed? What if FTP cancels the order?
