Is there a tool that can be used to understand how the odds are calculated for a particular hand.

For example QcJc v/s Ah5d with flop 8d9d8h, the odds are 36.31/63.69.

Is there any tool out there that can help understand the math behind this calculation?

I am unsure of a tool available to suit your needs. If you are asking from a personal standpoint in just understanding the math, I would suggest thinking of all the possible outcomes in the hand and you can look at percentages for each individual outcome. Ex. JQs makes a flush x% of the time. Ok, now think of what percentage of that does the A5 make a boat, etc. May help you with what you are trying to accomplish.

It's straightforward but the calculations are just lengthy. You can roughly estimate those equities by multiplying qj's outs by 4 (2 if we were on the turn), so 10 outs times 4 = 40 which is pretty close.

Kind of. You have to take into consideration the times an A falls on turn or river though.

This site does not necessarily explain how the odds are calculated but it is a very useful tool when comparing hands winning percentages versus other hands with and without seeing a flop. http://www.cardplayer.com/poker-tool...r/texas-holdem
