Poker Detox / Nick Howard

Hi All,

I am new to this forum and looking to purchase poker coaching products.

I have been looking into Poker Detox as I have watched a few of Nick Howards videos on youtube and his philosophy/approach resonates with me. I have some questions though:

Are the Poker Detox products any good?

Is Nick Howard a winning player? I would think that if you sell elite training products you should at least be a winning player yourself. I quickly sharkscoped his screen name and on pokerstars he is down about $60k.
I can't find any reviews or claims to the effectiveness of his coaching/products except from Nick himself.

I guess my third question is - do you have to be a winning player to coach?

I would love to hear from someone who has used his products to become a moreprofitable player. Thanks.

Re: Poker Detox / Nick Howard

I've seen some of his stuff.

Here would be my synopsis...

a lot of what he says is true, but he uses too many words to convey something simple
all of his products are overpriced (in my opinion)
afaik he is not playing poker anymore seriously as he's doing other stuff -- but that's more a question for him

with regards to the third question it's tougher to answer, but for poker I think it's very important a coach understand the game very well and be able to win if he is coaching the student on how to play the game. Things like how to study/what to study/mental game stuff you don't necessarily need to be a winner to teach/coach someone those things.

i think he's the most overrated/overpriced coach ever. based on friends opinion, his PIO stuff is very good regardless, but you can work on it for yourself.

As someone who has spent a year in a stable and had several coaches (never Nick), I would highly recommend his products as I think he offers things others severely lack. Not saying they are worth the four figures he charges (the value in it is different for everybody), but I would definitely be using as much of the free content as possible to start with if I were you, and you can always check out his CFP program.

I've purchased one of his courses PDNV. If you play mid-high stakes its MORE than fairly priced.

I'd look at all of his content on Run It Once, to get a feel for who he is and how he teaches. I think in the coaching world, its almost not even the content as much as your ability to connect and focus on listening to the teacher for long periods of time.

If you have two coaches teaching the exact same content, but one is Ben Stein, and the other is much more charismatic you are going to learn way more from whom you like

Nick Howard is not a good poker player period. I would not recommend any of his material. I don't know anything about poker detox is that some new website? maybe they have good material i don't know or maybe Nick improved as a player, but from what I have seen hes an awful player. Dont know why hes on rio and don't know how he got pro stamped on his forehead. He tries to sound like a genius though with his vocabulary it will fool some noobs into thinking he is highly intelligent person. Its like what Albert Einstein says. If you can't explain something in a simple way you don't know what your talking about.

I've been contemplating this course for a while but I play micro STT SNG's. My question is would this course be relevant to SNG play? I'm interested in using black and white data to produce an edge.

Simply tired of a depleting bankroll and looking for a step up.

Re: Poker Detox / Nick Howard

i really like it when coaches can convey complex ideas in simple, elegant ways

but there is also something to be said for trying to achieve maximum accuracy with language. even though nick howard does sometimes dip into language that sounds pretentious, i think this is because hes always trying to convey ideas with max precision.

anyone who knows his content also knows that he IS focused on simplifying certain aspects of theory/strat. i have learned a lot from nick howard, he is a great coach.

as far as his poker track record, let me say this: first of all these tracking websites are oftentimes only catch a small piece of a players lifetime results on various websites, live, etc. secondly, many people have benefitted from his content (including myself). the results we should be concerned with are the results of the people who have learned from him. many great sports coaches were unsuccessful athletes, but the results of their athletes is undeniable.

The new blackbox material he recently came out with is borderline scam for the price/content for anyone wondering.

Some of Nick Howards stuff is very good, but still too many words and too expensive. However, use a lot of it non anon games and be prepared to get utterly ****ed by anyone good.

Sometimes the only winning move is to walk away.

Keep this in mind.
