Pokercast Episode 24 - Bill Robertie & Mori Eskandani Pokercast Episode 24 - Bill Robertie & Mori Eskandani

05-20-2008 , 06:39 AM
The feature guest this week on Pokercast is Two Plus Two author and two time World Backgammon Champion Bill Robertie. Bill has written several backgammon, chess and poker books, and his latest being Harrington on Cash Games: Volume 1 and 2. Mori Eskandani, Excutive Producer of High Stakes Poker is also featured on the program to shed some light on the news that the show has been not been renewed by GSN. Mike and Adam also have a coach's corner segment with wellknown 2p2er and one-on-one coach Joe Tall, also of Deuces Cracked.com. There's another installment of forum static and of course give away the password for the May 25th Poker Stars VIP Club freeroll for Pokercast listeners.

Did you get Joe Tall on as mentioned in another thread?

Bill should be a good guest, maybe you can setup a high stakes backgammon game between him and Gus Hansen.

Good show as always guys.

Am I the only one who actually cringed at the idea of a million $ buy in on HSP? I actually thought that the mega buy in episodes were interesting as a one time thing but not much more. It showed that most of the players there were not comfortable playing for such stakes and the piles of cash on the table looked ridiculous and made the action harder to follow.

I totally agree. It was obvious that the only player comfortable was Guy and even some of the other players mentioned it.

You mean for a 1/2 nl game! If so, WOW I wonder if anyone could beat that game. You would have to destroy the living hell out of the game to beat the rake.

Is there anything in there about Robertie and backgammon?
05-20-2008 , 11:10 PM
Great episode, guys. I loved the interview with Robertie, particularly when he was discussing computers in gaming. I agree totally that the introduction of programs that "solve" games lead directly to the deaths of those games. I was very disappointed in the decline of backgammon with the development of Snowie, and I echo his sentiments in hoping poker doesn't go down that road.

Good episode guys, it was particularly interesting to hear Bill talk about how he and Dan go about writing together, how they just sit and record their thoughts whilst playing hands/talking etc. then they start piecing it all together.

It would appear to be a real task to get those thoughts into some kind of order then go through the editing process where it sounds like quite a lot gets axed. Nonetheless, both the new books read excellently and are highly recommended.

This may have been the best show. Bill Robertie did not disappoint. He was an outstanding guest with a lot to say and he really ran with the questions. Listening to him it is no surprise that his five hold 'em books are so well done. He's a poster boy (poster man?) for all that is appealing in poker.

The guy who dig the Ongame digging provided a major service to the poker community and also provided for lively radio. Excellent choice for a guest.

like $250ish game. Fullring. It was beatable, but it was like whole table limp in, random grinder take stack of random fish. Next hand...

And the game raked pf if there was like 5-6 limpers and a standard raise.

But there where some very very fishy players... (Ive never played a casino before, so might just be standard fishyness.

Great episode. Bill Robertie is a good interviewee. Easy to understand and actually seemed like he was interested in answering the questions. Unlike last week... Plus the 2 hour show was a bonus. Now I can listen to it for 2 days on my work commute (half hour each way)

But, what the christ is up with Colin Moshman's voice?

Great show guys...Any chance you can get someone from GSN to come on and explain the future of HSP (if it has one on GSN)?

great show. I don't think things were getting off track, but I thought this show was one of the 'best all around' -- whatever that means. Had a good mix of stuff I wanted to listen to while stuck in traffic.
