Wondering if you saw this article. Being someone who works in the IT intdustry and has a focus on network and application security I have always wondered about these issues surrounding online poker, but have never taken the time to look into it deeper. It is nice to see some smart individuals taking an independent look at this. As you guys talked about similar issues surrounding the Open Face Chineese app I thought this would be worth discussing as well from a much broader view of online poker as a whole. I know this can get very technical and becomes dificult to discuss in lamens terms.
Congrats on your first poast Russ. I almost banned you and deleted it before I realized it was a legit first poast. Looked so much like spam!

When does the next pokercast air? Been quite sometime. Not complaining... Just eagerly awaiting!

Tech Crunch ran this story about US poker exiles (they say they are the best HU players) moving to Montreal, and playing venture capitalists for a porn site "paint bottle". They don't name names.

The paint bottle site is NSFW.

Have tommy from Venetian on to explain the venetian tournament advertising policies. His explanation of why the Venetian doesn't have to list fees in their ads is in the mttc live section.

Maybe not a segment, but at least worth a mention:

If players have to have backers or sell pieces to play tournament poker (in other words, they have no business playing that high) what is the recent popularity of WPT reentry events going to do the those players, and to do the poker economy?

Mike and Adam: Where do you set the over/under on name players going broke in 2013?

This isn't necessarily a true statement. Many players choose to take backers specifically to avoid going broke. The feel they are good enough to compete at that level but realize that spending a higher % of their bankroll than necessary is foolish due the variance in tourneys over a small sample size. The fact they are cognizant enough to realize that shows solid BR management. Obviously if they were buying into these events 100% themselves, I think a lot more of them would be going broke than in a staking world.

As for re-entry events, most of these events used to be 10K buy-in so to now have a $5K with a re-entry or a $3300 with a double re-entry essentially is the same financial commitment as the old 10K events and potentially much less if you build a stack on Day 1a.

edit - we are starting a new regular segment on staking/backing soon and topics like this will definitely be covered.

Have Matt savage on to discuss the unprecedented $10million guarantee '$5k in Florida. Also why they have forty minute levels in a huge event like this.

It's still over 3 months away. We will definitely cover it once the SCOOP, WPT Championship, WSOP-C National Championships and WSOP are over.

As for the 40 minute levels, my guess is it's likely a re-entry event and they'll need as many entries as possible to hit the guarantee so they need people to bust out faster to build the prize pool. I would think any pro participating in the event should be prepared to fire 2-3 bullets for sure. You also still seem to be under the impression that everyone wants a slow structure, which just is not the case. All 100K super high rollers and the one drop events are essentially turbo formats as well. I would certainly consider those huge events also. To fill a field large enough to create a $10m prize pool, you need MANY, I mean MANY recreational/casual players. Those people have places to be. Not only do they not want to play a long event, if it was a 5-6 day event, most of them wouldn't even sign up at all.

It is a 5-6 day event. Sentiment in the thread is against 40 minute levels. Most think it will actually hurt reentry.

What are you suggesting something like an hour? Or do you want the full 2 hour WSOP main event type structure? That would reward skill but that may not be the type of player this event to focused on drawing.

For the record, I think you have done a great job of promoting longer structures just curious your thoughts.

Not really the thread to tackle this but..

Most casual/recreational players aren't posting in 2+2 threads. That sentiment only represents a small percentage of the poker community this tournament is targeting. Your arguments re:structure are always based on what you think 'circuit grinding nits' want. These players are not the only people TD's think about. I would argue they are far from the most important participants in a poker tournament also.

Re:length of days? How many Day 1's are there?
05-16-2013 , 04:43 PM
Three day ones. Its a seven day event so day one can easily support one hour levels.
