I really wasn't trying to be offended. It just popped up on my timeline and really settled with me badly. That's all. That being said, him not apologizing is fine as well, as I mentioned. he explained himself well. I still wish he would, but at the same time, I get where he is coming from.
I also agree with playing the ME was a bad choice in the first place. (Unless the money isn't a problem or he satty'd in for like under 2k. (I think tat's about he amount ti would need to be to make it still a pretty good EV choice).

Re: Shame on Adam Schwartz
Since when are we not allowed to poke fun at people/beliefs we respect? I really don't think his tweet is that offensive.

Re: Shame on Adam Schwartz
After reading thread title, disappointing this wasn't someone mad that Adam didn't sit out the main event to record the show.

Re: Shame on Adam Schwartz
Have not played the ME and prolly will never do. But I can well imagine the
pain and outrage of someone who did and lost their stack, and chance for a
bigger payout, to Mr Nash and then see him blinded out, not because of a
personal or family emergency, but for reasons that he knew before he
signed up for the ME.
When I lose in a tourney (often), I hope (not always) that however beat me
will go on and do better with my chips than I could ever do myself.
The way I see it the shame should be on the player who takes the chips
knowing before hand that he will not play to win the most that he can, not
because of unforeseen circumstances but for personal reasons or beliefs.
Sorry if I am redundant, I am on my second bottle of red whine.

Re: Shame on Adam Schwartz
Why is it that people are willing to bet everything on one belief with no evidence to support it, and somehow its a shame when anyone questions whether they should. How is this shameful?
We should all be more respectful of one another, but thats not why Adam's tweet is 'controversial'.
Freedom of religion is not freedom from reason.

Thanks to everyone for keeping the discussion civil and mostly on topic. Much easier than dealing with the fallout with Bunner and his depictions of the 'the profit' :

Re: Shame on Adam Schwartz
Wow!! I remember a discussion I had with a born again bus driver.
He was telling me that God was all almighty and powerful.
So i asked him if God was so almighty and powerful, could he make an object,
planet or solar system so heavy that no one, even himself, could lift it?
(an argument I read on the web , you have to think about that one for a few seconds .......)
He said yes, because when you reach the limit of reason and logic, that`s where God enters your life.
So......

Re: Shame on Adam Schwartz
I've got tons of respect for Jarret Nash. It's very rare to find people adhere to their beliefs no matter the cost.
As for Adam Schwartz, it's America, he can say whatever he wants. It can be looked at as a joke or it can be looked at as offensive, it's a subjective matter.
I can also guarantee you this isn't the first time Jarret has gotten crap for missing out on opportunities because of the Sabbath, if it really bothered him he would have played. On a personal note to Jarret, kudos to you. IMHO, you passed what is another test by avoiding temptation, you adhered to your principles, and those that stick by what they believe in will be rewarded abundantly. (much more than any amount of money you could've won in the tourney)

Re: Shame on Adam Schwartz
This might well have the first time he missed out on an opportunity because if you read the story it wasn't actually his religion he was adhering to it was that of his new wife. And to Schupick using words like shame and disgusting about a subjective tweet that at worst you could say is in slight bad taste is way OOT.

I see what you did there.
I was going to go off on a rant about what's really wrong is this world is how ignorant people are, as a general rule, of the basic tenets of theological traditions different from the ones in which they were indoctrinated. For example, I got this joke even though I'm not a member of the tribe. But my main example was going to be something the OP said, which might be taken as a personal attack, so I'll just leave it alone.

Re: Shame on Adam Schwartz
Adam Schwartz is single-handedly keeping the PokerCast forum afloat!
Including this post I'm writing right now, there've been 13 posts so far today in the PokerCast forum, and of the 13, nine of them were either in the "Shame on Adam Schwartz" or the "Sweat Adam Schwartz" thread!
That's all I have to say. Carry on, guys.

This tweet is extremely disgusting, ... immense amount of hubris ... you should apologize Adam,
|
Seriously? " Extremly disgusting"? Wow.
I can't wrap my mind around the idea that anybody would find Adam's tweet even slightly offensive. That idea is so absurd. Maybe that is a USA/Canada thing? If you try to be upset about something like that here in Germany everybody will just laugh. Honestly. I don't get it. When I read the OP I thought it was a level or troll attempt.
In Adam's defense. He is obviously bipolar.
