Pokercast Episode 305 - Phil Ivey & Aussie Millions Pokercast Episode 305 - Phil Ivey & Aussie Millions

This interview lead me to a deep hole of watching Ivey YouTube videos (there are some great collections btw).

If you guys ever have a chance to interview him again -- please consider asking him about the Q8hh hand where he's playing HU for the title. It might not be anything he distinctly remembers, but if he did, I'd love to hear his thoughts on the hand / situation / villain.

I enjoyed the interview a lot, I think you guys handled it well and he came off as an enjoyable person to be around, but Ivey seems like a nice person now. Almost like a human. I preferred him when I thought he was a poker robot.

Awesome interview, thanks for sharing.

Anyone else find themselves in a situation where they were trying to explain the magnitude of the lads getting Ivey on the show to a significant other without any idea of who's who in the poker glitterati?

I liked the question about laying down Kings. I remember watching that and the look on his face while thinking about calling/folding was priceless. You could see that he really wanted to call, but talked himself into laying it down. Great interview.

Be easier to follow the bumps if one actually had a url link somewhere in the Cast forum, no? Huh? Otherwise it's hunt, search, hunt...distracted and swallowed by the time sink reading other posts found by accident during search and ultimately an "ahforgedabawdit".

I thought the interview was fantastic, I had a huge childish grin on my face the whole time while at work listening. Ivey came off as a charmer. Thanks.

Yeah, I was the same way, which surprised me a little bit — I'd heard Ivey on PokerWire and PokerRoad back in those days, so I already knew how comfortable he is with long-form interviews on those rare occasions he actually grants them. But in those cases, he already had a longtime friendship with everyone there. This was a different situation, yet everyone eased right into it.

I'll even admit crossing my fingers (not literally) that Ivey would voluntarily continue the interview, sort of like Barry Greenstein did a few years ago. Jerry Seinfeld did this on Rich Eisen's podcast recently. Those guys are huge Seinfeld fans and were beyond thrilled to talk to him. So when the interview was done, and Jerry started asking THEM questions... well, suffice to say Rich and his co-hosts are still buzzing about it two episodes later.

Anyway, +1 to most of the posts here: great job by everyone involved, and I hope this means we might hear from him again on the Pokercast someday.

great interview and great job guys, Ivey really opens up on interviews. they just very rare and far between.

When the interview started off, 1st Q-MJ's voice was crackling, I would be crazy nervous.......

As another poster noted above, I also got few posts and the Ivey interview drew me to make my way to the keyboard

thanks again for all the time you guys take, Adam and MJ

He's actually super easy to talk with. I found him more laid back and conversational than expected. I nearly asked him what kind of candy he was eating during the interview, but couldn't pull the trigger.
Actually some really interesting answers on the poker strategy side, such as when he said "I don't really know how he plays, since I haven't seen him plays when losing yet".

O an congrats on the Ivey interview.
Sklansky is good in content but horrible in style both in writing and audio. Though I don't really understand how what he was talking about here really differs from donkaments which have add-ons before busting, so what he describes already exists.
NB: I never play rebuys and such.

In before Doug Polk confirms he is better than Ivey and this thread should be about him.

I was really disappointed that you guys didn't ask about the story Stapes told about Phil and Daniel... Would have been great to hear Phil's version of those events

I listened to the Ivey interview a couple of times. You guys did a great job. I mean a really great job. Ivey rarely does interviews and i can't recall an interview of this length where you actually have time to just chill and listen the the conversation and not think about how long it's gonna be before it wraps up. Sure, i get that Ivey had some stuff he wanted to talk about...stuff to promote...but i think you guys got the best out of him. And for that the interview is kinda of a one off. You set the standard. So you deserve so much credit for how you handled the whole thing.

I'm not even that big of an Ivey fan...but there's no doubt he's the end boss, for me the proof was right at the start of the interview when asked if the adrenalin was pumping and he kinda said the Super High Roller he just bagged was kind of a breeze and he didn't sound arrogant or big headed as others might, he was just being Ivey. Some people try to be cool and cold and act like they have ice in their veins but Ivey...I dunno...i didn't think he was fronting for a second. And i loved the fact that several times in the interview he just said matter-of-factly - I love to play poker. And he loves to play high stakes...and that he conceded that many players have an edge of him in the big games online...and it takes him a while to get up to speed.

Like i say i am not a big Ivey fan, but i do love poker and i think you guys seriously raised the bar...cos that interview was a joy to listen to. Mad props Mike and Adam...seriously, mad props.

I got here from a /r/poker (Reddit) link. I'm a casual micro-stakes player at best. Anyways, this is the first episode I've ever tuned in, but I have to say this podcast was great. You guys got a new sub
