With regard to "pleaded" vs. "pled":
Quote:
pleaded; pled; plead. The best course is to treat plead as a weak verb, so that the correct past tense, as well as past participle, is pleaded. Pled and plead are alternative past-tense forms to be avoided; they were once chiefly dialectal, but now have some standing in AmE. [history of the usage of plead and pled in AmE and BrE omitted]
Bryan A. Garner, A Dictionary of Modern Legal Usage

He expresses no opinion of the correct usage in Canadian English.

Does it really have vodka? I'm never sure how those malt beverages are given their alcohol.

As with Smirnoff Ice, Mike's hard Lemonade in Canada and Europe is actually a premixed vodka drink or alcapop.

In America, these drinks start out as un-hopped beers, depending on the state in which they are sold. Much of the malt (and alcohol) is removed (leaving mostly water), with subsequent addition of alcohol (usually vodka or grain alcohol), sugar, coloring and flavoring.

The reason the recipe is slightly different in the US and labeled as a 'malt beverage' is so that it can be classified as a 'beer' which then means they can sell it in gas stations and other stores that are not licensed to sell spirits.

That was what i was thinking but I think Hard Lemonade would suggest that it is alcoholic...saw the reply so that confirms that.

We use to have a drink out here called two dogs... named after the joke. but it was an alcholic cider made from Lemons. cant say that it stood the test of time but was very popular some 15 years ago or so.

I would have thought bourbon in PET (plastic) bottles would have happened by now for those sports fans that need something a bit better to drink. (although I keep forgetting that the USA dont have premix)

Premix is - bourb in a can with cola 5% alcohol volume. buy it in a 24 pack...so easy so cool and even homeless people can get access to premix's (1 or 2 cans) for less than your basement bottle of wine in Aus. which is still expensive by world standards...but anyway.

Oh well.

We were drinking those pre-mixed Wild Turkey and Coke's in a can down in Melbourne during the Aussie Millions. They aren't that good compared to an actual cocktail and so expensive.
