Episode #452 - March 14th, 2017

Live from the Two Plus Two Studios - This week on the Pokercast: It’s March Madness, and you know what that means! Alan Boston returns to the Pokercast to tell us what’s wrong in the world and give out winners. To start, Terrence’s fight is around the corner and we talk about reactions to the Keegan interview last week, WSOP plans and more of Adam’s weight bet before we get into the news. In ICYMI: "Molly’s Game" movie, Man responsible for Black Friday goes down, WPT cancels in Korea and Shooting Start recap. Boston then joins us to talk about a variety of topics including live poker on the east coast, old school handicapping stories, selection sunday and his picks for the round of 64.
After Alan, we talk to the head honcho here at 2+2 Mr. Mason Malmuth about the release of his and David Sklansky's new book “Poker & More, Unique Ideas & Concepts”. We answer a few questions from the Mailbag as well before we wrap it up.

I'm tempted to finally bother to bet on the lock but I don't want to ruin it for everyone else.

We should sticky, pin, or edit the first post to include the picks :-P
Alien Boston was a little cold earlier this year, but has been solid recently. Also, Pokercast locks several years running! Follow @BostonRed88

Can anyone make sense of Alan's picks for a British person who does not bet on sports?

Literally no idea what any of what he said means but want to put a couple of hundred on.

On Bet365 RI are +1.0 on the spread and 20/21 on the money line.

Would they be good bets given what Boston said?

So when the streak breaks this year it's on me.

I really enjoyed Alan's interview as always and he had a lot of interesting things to say but I found it very intense (that is even more intense than usual). And you owe him a round of match game!!

Listening to Mason's voice afterwards was like a relaxing exercise for me.

Someone needs to tell Boston that this kid and his "luxury tax" theory is B.S. he pulled out of his ass. It's the IRS not the NBA.

I'm slow.

Did he pick the HAWKS?

Alan was saying take Rhode Island (a 1.5 point underdog (+1.5) at that time), but pay the extra vig (that is the "-120" part of what he said, as the standard vig is -110) to get Rhode Island +2. Where -120 means bet 120 for each 100 you win.

However, it looks like the line has moved to even or is Rhode Island favored (-1), so you're not likely to get the line Alan recommended (+1.5/+2) right now. I'm not sure what he say about betting Rhode Island at pick'em, obviously he'd like RI plus 2 points better.

I don't see any -1 yet, but I do see PK or +1 -115. Pokercast listeners must have some money. Will be interesting to follow the line movement through tip off. This movement (though "just" 2 points) is pretty significant for a game without any major injury or team personnel announcements. At the moment, this game is at the top of the list in line movement since open.

I'm not betting Bucknell early because +14.5 or +14(+even) could be available soon when the public bets the 4 seed favorite.

Wichita St is moving in the opposite direction (of Boston's prediction) going from a 7.5pt fav to 5.5 or 6. Taking Boston's lean about 5 point lines into consideration, Wich St -5 -110 is probably a great bet vs a so-so bet on -6 -105.

O M G! Boston. Always look forward to this interview. Listening now.

I could listen to Alan Boston forever. What a great guy. So genuine and puts his whole heart into everything he does. Is he a little blind about Howard Lederer's role in the Full Tilt collapse? Sure, but at least he's showing great loyalty...

As for Mason Malmuth, he's the complete opposite of Alan Boston. When he started talking, I just skipped right over his interview. Boring, self-involved, and just plain uninteresting. He and Sklansky belong in the same bubble together.

Bucknell Vs West Virginia he seemed to like Bucknell and then he retracted his statement.

Bucknell are currently way outside paying $8.75. Worth a crack maybe??

I would not take Bucknell on the money line their record isn't as sick as the chicagos. For real though they have almost no chance of winning this game but they seem to play well enough to keep it within 14 points, as Alan said.

Boston didn't retract. He was saying he likes Bucknell at the spread getting 14 or more. If WV wins, then he likes them to run deep.

Bucknell beat the spread. Thank you, Mr Boston!

I love this guy. He's really a crusher. Hopefully he can keep the demons at bay and continue for a long time to come.

It must've taken about 10 minutes into the interview before he took a breath, and still Adam couldn't get a word in.
