Pokercast 381 - Randy Blumer & WCOOP Pokercast 381 - Randy Blumer & WCOOP

Loving the pokercast, my favorite podcast gives me joy. Looved the Randy Blum interview. Everything about the pokercast I love except for Pokerstars segment and Ross report HHs can be a bit boring. From live HS London player.

Really enjoyed the interview with Randy. Not once did he use the terms VPIP or PFR and I found his recollections enjoyable.

Ross Report is great because as someone who has been known to blow up a bankroll it is nice to see I am not alone.

Adam you mentioned you made a living from golf for a couple years,...how so sir,a la Lee Trevino in his pre-pro drink bottle hustle days,or were you just straight out good??

TChan, can you find the WWII sites in Hong Kong? I remember seeing a documentary where they were in what looked like a backyard in a rich neighborhood.

Was also curious about this, some more stories about it would be interesting

I'll put it in the next show notes!

Hey Adam, Terrance,

Just finished this week's episode.

Heard your pleas for more feedback. I generally don't post but DL and listen to every episode.

Really enjoyed the interview with Randy Blummer. Have found all three interviews with the Internet Pokers Wall of Fame to be really enjoyable.

Some feedback on the Terrance and Roscoe hands of the week: what about posting them in the show thread OP? At least up to the big decision/inflection point in the hand. I doubt it would take that much effort as part of the editing process to add the hand history (or whatever) in the thread.

Maybe this is just me, personally, but I would find it more fun to read the hand history first, then hear you guys retell it and gather your thoughts about strat AFTER I've thought about it some.

So I'm imagining something like this in the show thread write-up. Or in the 2nd post, right after the OP:

Hands Of the Week
Stars WCOOP <whatever>
Day 1
Blinds: 500/1000
Stacks 50kish deep

- EP opened to 2400
- Terrance call in the BB with 6h4h

Flop:
J64 with two clubs

Terrance checks, villain cbets for 3k, Terrance raises to 9k, villain calls.

Turn:
9

Terrance bets 12k, villain calls.

River:
Th.

Terrance: ???

-----

Or you just paste the hand history without any mystery, or put the result or decision point as a spoiler.

I realize typing this up is work, but it would be easier to follow along. And for those of us who might want to play along and put in 5 minutes of thinking to see what we would do versus how you or Terrance or Ross plays it, it might be fun/more interesting to have some time to prep first.

Just a thought.

One more bit of feedback: I realize this is not a sports betting podcast but for your American audience, with DFS the new hotness that's sweeping the nation, it might be entertaining to expand your DFS coverage. I'm not talking about picks and strat (you can get that anywhere imo), but interviews with notable players or guys in the industry like Joe Tall. Or if you have some keen personal insights on strat about MMA DFS or NHL DFS, that might be interesting to listen to.

I'm not sure how everyone else feels and might rather you just stick to poker, particularly the global audience who doesn't have huge exposure to DFS. But for your American audience, I feel like the overlap in poker interest and DFS interest is probably pretty large: that is, most of your audience is probably playing DFS seriously or casually already. It might be worth an ongoing segment where you dedicate 10-15 minutes a week to DFS coverage. It could probably be in conjunction with promoting StarsDraft somehow.

I'd say leave the DFS to the Pokernews lot.

It certainly sounded like TC's neighbour had a lathe. Possible some bizarre callback to a classic thread...

As someone whose favorite game was hide and go seek when internet poker started, it was cool to hear how it all got going. I've listened to a few of these podcasts now; they're great for the ride to and from AC since it's about a 3 hour round trip.

Thought I'd just mention that the "guy" stealthmunk got bluffed by does eventually make the November 9. Was interesting to see them clash so early.

great show guys as always. Randy Blumer interview was fantastic.

I felt I had to post this week as Adam sounded close to tears when begging people to post. Just to make the old man feel better I posted a review on itunes as well.

keep up the great work.

I woke up one morning with a thought in my head and the very next podcast you guys answered my question.

My thought was based on a Jason Somerville bounty tournament. It was something like a $6 entry and $50 on Jason. I thought to myself "If Jason was UTG and I was UTG+1 on the first hand of the tournament and he open shoved then should I call with any 2 cards?"

You answered it with the Red Spade Open discussion.
Thanks

^^ Haven't listened to the podcast (trailing by many episodes), but I imagine the scenario would be different if it folded to Jason in the SB, he open-shoved and it's your action in the BB (still the 1st hand of the tournament).

Terrence, the process you described (and the 7 days prior restriction) was the same exact process I went through to pre-register for the WSOP in Las Vegas this year. Not sure what the issue is, have you never pre-registered for WSOP events in Vegas before or have you been hit in the head one two many times

Showing some love for the show and answering Adam's call to post in the show thread.

I liked the interview with Randy. He's someone I've never heard of before the pokercast and it was interesting to hear his life story.

Keep up the good work fellas!

hey guys, just a thought. I used to listen to a podcast by the BBC. The artwork would change periodocially throughout the podcast to reflect the current discussion, maybe you could use this to make the rossco report more engaging. I dont play much PLO and its very difficult to follow the action and remember the holdings. I know you were making an effort to recap, but either you slipped back into the old ways, or my brain just can't remember everything.

I am a listener pre-PokerStars sponsorship. The show remains my favorite podcast. Adam has improved dramatically as the host. Terrence is improving as well. I like the way the show is now. The Roscoe report is fine, though I wish it were more hold em oriented. I really enjoy the history of the pre-boom days. Those episodes are great. I like that you are incorporating strategy now. I am babbling on with nothing interesting to say but wanted to make sure the show knows its listeners deep affection for the show. I am sincerely thankful for all your hard work to put this show on. I can't wait to hear about your golf (presumably hustling?) days. Keep it up guys. Thanks for the show.
09-30-2015 , 02:42 PM
Yes. Let's hear more about Adam's golfing days and how you were able to make a living from golf.

different how?

I think you should call with any two in both situations

the overlay you're getting is just too great

If you are UTG+1 and have 7 people behind you to act and expect that they should all call, there's much more to consider than if you have no action behind and are guaranteed heads up... I wonder if in the first example knowing that it's going to be such a huge multi-way all in and weaker hands have such a low chance of winning a multi-way pot does that cancel out the value of the overlay on the big bounty and as a result should your range be a bit tighter than A2C?

but you also have to consider the pot odds

9-tupling up is much better than doubling up

I didn't even know that was possible, sounds quite complicated though I think it would make more sense to add the written hand histories in the description and you could follow along on your phone. I don't know if there are any limitations on how long podcast descriptions can be because ours will be insanely long.

Well sure, but it also depends on the number of entries in the tournament. 6$ buy-in and 50$ bounty, but what about the total prize pool?

If there are 1000 entries, that's 5k$ in the pool (assuming 1$ rake), so 9-tupling vs busting in the first hand doesn't make up for the 50$ bounty.
