Pokercast 352 - JC Alvarado and Chris Danek

Live from the Two Plus Two Studios - This week on the Pokercast: Terrence has returned to the western world for this week’s epic 6 guest episode. We start off this week replying to an e-mail from listener Matt S who said that his girlfriend thought the Pokercast was a shallow, mindless radio program so naturally we brought Matt and Kristen onto the show and tested her skills at stripper trivia! Moving into “In Case You Missed It” the guys talk about the once esteemed Taj Mahal poker room in Atlantic City shutting it’s doors this week. Other stories covered in ICYMI are WSOP.com takes down their fixed limit games, The WPT Fallsview Classic and Martin Jacobsen donates $250k to Raising for Effective Giving. In some good legislation news Caesars has changed their stance on Pokerstars entering the US market. Adam and Terrence review that decision and then look at a darker piece involving online poker that was recently posted by Nolan Dalla titled “Ten Reasons Why Online Poker Could Get Outlawed [in the US]” and Chris Grove joins the program once again to shed some light on some of the points made in this article and how accurate his predictions may be.
JC Alvarado is this week’s feature guest and he joins us from Mexico City. JC starts off talking about his recent run in getting caught in the crossfire of cops and criminals in the streets of Mexico City and then the guys get into some poker topics like the movement of players to Playa Del Carman and the poker landscape of Mexico. JC famously had a prop bet to fight Andrew Robl in the octagon for quite a bit of money a few years ago and it never ended up happening but it was very real for a little while, and he talks about everything that happened to that bet. Terrence and JC talk MMA and how to fine tune your body and mind for the best poker results, naturally and with the use of supplements which JC is a big proponent of. Among other great bits, JC has an unheard Ivey story to finish off with. Next, in reply to a post in the Pokercast forums and in a new segment to prep you for the WSOP, the guys bring in Chris Danek to talk about how to play single table satellites profitably. Chris has grinded the satellites at the WSOP for years now and shares some tricks of the trade for anyone trying to play some of the lower stakes poker offered at the WSOP. As the show comes to a close the guys catch up with Matthew Hilger from the Isle of Man to talk about what’s going on at Pokerstars this week like the announcement of the $9M Guaranteed Sunday Million and some of the Pokerstars Live VIP parties being hosted around the world this year. The guys answer the Mailbag, share their favourite things and the password to the Pokerstars Invitational is given out for this week!

This episode is showing up in iTunes for me as released on February 12th and last weeks on February 5th. Not a big issue but confusing since it thinks it was released last week it isn't in my recent updates feed this morning.

No, this one was recorded last night. I'm guessing Ross put the date in wrong when he uploaded it.

Currently listening to the JC Alvarado interview. This guy is fantastic!

Those dates should be up to date now

"We visited Occupy Wall Street, just before going to Monte Carlo"

When Ross started there were a lot of comments about the sound quality of the show. Only 45 minutes in so far, but quality is outstanding (as it has been for a long time) - so congratulations on the improvements made.

Hi, for all listeners, although they say it is all one word, there is indeed a space.

Many thanks Crazeyesdumno, I tried every combination including caps at the start etc. Thought it was me that was making the mistake, I even listened to the segment again

Got in now but hopefully it keeps the field a lot lower

Good luck in the tourney.

single table satellites are run a bit different now. at the podium there are several card trays labeled with the type of STS it is, buy-in and table number. Pick a card from the tray and take it to the cashier. then go to your table and wait for it to fill up.

Re: Black Mirror, its created / written by Charlie Brooker I can recommend pretty much all of his other work. Newswipe / Screenwipe & 10 O'clock Live (hosted with Victoria Coren Mitchells other half David Mitchell)

TC might also like to look out for Adam Curtis work, he produces a very idiosyncratic form of documentary / disparate history programs on a variety of subjects. Hard to describe, and the production quality is limited. But he is just a guy at the BBC who is given free reign to look at the world and try's to explain how we got here.

Great show, keep up the good work.

After the JC Alvarado interview I looked up the High Stakes Living episode. Comedy gold, worth a look https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBGNKtOUO_g
